Staff Counsel for Legislative Program

• Identify authors in the Legislature to introduce bills implementing Committee recommendations.
• Coordinate support and provide technical assistance for legislative initiatives.
• Assist with strategizing Committee topics, researching and writing background memos, and presenting to the Committee at public meetings.

This role directly contributes to reforming California's criminal justice system by translating research and recommendations into enacted legislation, promoting fairness and effectiveness in penal law.

• Minimum of six years of experience as a lawyer.
• Admission to the California bar.
• Experience with legislative processes and criminal law preferred.

Salary range: $130,224 to $182,820 annually. Telework position with regular travel to Sacramento. Benefits as a California state employee.

The California Committee on Revision of the Penal Code is a state entity created in 2020 to study and recommend changes to all aspects of California criminal law, with 22 bills enacted into law since its inception.
