๐Ÿ“ Tips for Applying to Workiva

1

Tailor your resume to highlight specific examples of leading teams that built AI evaluation or governance tools, emphasizing measurable outcomes (e.g., reduced model drift, improved accuracy).

2

In your cover letter, explicitly mention your experience with nondeterministic system testing and how you've applied Responsible AI principles in a practical engineering context.

3

Research Workiva's ESG reporting platform and mention how your work in AI governance can enhance their mission of transparency and compliance.

4

Quantify your leadership impact, such as team size, project scope, and any improvements in engineering efficiency or product quality.

5

Showcase any experience with remote team management, as this role is remote-first and requires strong virtual collaboration skills.

โœ‰๏ธ What to Emphasize in Your Cover Letter

["Emphasize your leadership in building AI quality frameworks, especially for generative AI, and how you've navigated the complexities of testing nondeterministic systems.", 'Highlight your ability to partner with non-engineering stakeholders (Legal, Risk) to operationalize Responsible AI policies.', "Connect your experience to Workiva's mission of simplifying ESG reportingโ€”show how reliable AI can enhance trust in their platform.", "Mention specific tools or methodologies you've used for AI observability (e.g., LLM evals, drift detection) and how you'd apply them at Workiva."]

๐Ÿ” Research Before Applying

To stand out, make sure you've researched:

  • โ†’ Understand Workiva's product suite, especially their ESG reporting solutions, and how AI is integrated to enhance them.
  • โ†’ Explore Workiva's engineering blog or tech talks to learn about their current AI initiatives and quality practices.
  • โ†’ Review recent news about Workiva's partnerships or acquisitions related to AI or governance.
  • โ†’ Familiarize yourself with the competitive landscape in AI governance (e.g., other companies' approaches) to position your ideas.

๐Ÿ’ฌ Prepare for These Interview Topics

Based on this role, you may be asked about:

1 How would you design a testing strategy for a RAG-based system? What metrics would you track?
2 Describe a time you translated a Responsible AI principle (e.g., fairness) into a concrete engineering control.
3 How do you balance speed of AI feature development with the need for rigorous quality and governance?
4 How would you build a shared evaluation platform that serves multiple product teams? What are the key architectural considerations?
5 Given Workiva's focus on compliance, how would you ensure AI systems meet regulatory standards (e.g., EU AI Act) in a practical way?

โš ๏ธ Common Mistakes to Avoid

  • Don't submit a generic cover letterโ€”this role demands specificity around AI quality and governance, so tailor every section.
  • Avoid focusing solely on ML model development; emphasize your engineering management and platform-building skills.
  • Don't overlook the importance of Responsible AIโ€”if you lack experience, avoid claiming it; instead, show willingness to learn and collaborate with experts.
