How to Apply for Solution Development Consultant

at Workiva

🏢 About Workiva

Workiva is at the forefront of integrated ESG reporting, helping organizations streamline climate impact disclosure and compliance. The company's platform is uniquely positioned at the intersection of financial, sustainability, and regulatory reporting, offering a chance to work on high-impact, mission-driven technology. With a remote-first culture and a focus on AI-powered solutions, Workiva provides an innovative environment for solving complex enterprise challenges.

About This Role

As a Solution Development Consultant, you'll own the most challenging customer problems end-to-end, from prototype to production, designing AI-powered workflows for regulated environments. This role combines deep technical expertise with strategic advisory, as you'll serve as a trusted advisor to customer executives and contribute to a shared knowledge base. Your work directly enables organizations to meet ESG reporting requirements with greater accuracy and efficiency.

💡 A Day in the Life

A typical day might start with a standup with your team to discuss ongoing deployments and customer blockers. You’ll then join a technical workshop with a client’s stakeholders to define AI workflow requirements, followed by hands-on prototyping and testing. After lunch, you might review a production deployment’s performance metrics and contribute a new pattern to the team’s knowledge base, then wrap up by preparing for an executive briefing the next day.

🎯 Who Workiva Is Looking For

  • Has 5+ years delivering software solutions to enterprise customers, with a track record of owning complex deployments from concept to stable production.
  • Brings domain expertise in reporting and analytics, especially in financial, sustainability, governance, risk, or compliance contexts.
  • Is hands-on with enterprise platforms like SAP, Oracle, ServiceNow, or Salesforce, and can integrate AI workflows (prompt engineering, RAG, agent architectures) into these ecosystems.
  • Thrives in a customer-facing role, able to facilitate executive discussions and technical workshops while building trust with stakeholders.

📝 Tips for Applying to Workiva

1

Highlight specific examples of end-to-end ownership of customer problems, especially involving AI or automation in regulated environments.

2

Showcase your experience with ESG, sustainability, or compliance reporting—mention any relevant frameworks (e.g., GRI, SASB, TCFD) or tools.

3

Demonstrate familiarity with Workiva’s platform by referencing how your skills align with their integrated reporting approach.

4

Emphasize your ability to build and operationalize AI solutions (e.g., RAG, agent architectures) in enterprise settings, not just prototype.

5

Tailor your resume to include keywords like 'prompt engineering', 'production deployment', 'customer advisory', and 'enterprise integration'.

✉️ What to Emphasize in Your Cover Letter

['Explain your passion for ESG and sustainability reporting, and how your technical skills can drive transparency and compliance.', 'Describe a specific instance where you owned a complex customer problem from prototype to production, detailing the impact.', 'Highlight your experience with enterprise platforms (SAP, Oracle, etc.) and how you’ve integrated AI workflows into those environments.', 'Convey your ability to be both a technical expert and a trusted advisor, with examples of facilitating executive-level discussions.']

💬 Prepare for These Interview Topics

1 Walk me through a time you designed and deployed an AI-powered workflow for a regulated customer environment. What challenges did you face?
2 How would you approach integrating Workiva’s ESG reporting capabilities with a client’s existing SAP or Oracle infrastructure?
3 Describe your experience with prompt engineering and RAG. How do you evaluate the quality and reliability of AI outputs in a compliance context?
4 How do you balance being a technical advisor with managing customer expectations, especially when solutions require iteration?
5 What metrics do you use to measure the success of a deployed solution, and how do you ensure it remains stable in production?

⚠️ Common Mistakes to Avoid

  • Focusing only on technical skills without demonstrating customer-facing advisory experience—this role requires both.
  • Ignoring the ESG angle; generic applications that don't address sustainability reporting will stand out for the wrong reasons.
  • Underestimating the importance of production stability and controls in regulated environments—don’t just talk about prototypes.
