How to Apply for Senior Product Designer

at Uplight

🏢 About Uplight

Uplight accelerates the clean energy transition by partnering with leading utilities to deliver personalized customer experiences that reduce carbon emissions. As a mission-driven B Corp, you'll work on products that directly impact energy efficiency and sustainability, with a culture that values innovation and collaboration.

About This Role

This Senior Product Designer role owns the end-to-end customer journey for residential and business energy portals, insight widgets, and communications. You'll shape how millions of users understand and reduce their energy usage, leveraging Uplight's design system and driving research to simplify complex energy data into actionable insights.

💡 A Day in the Life

Your day might start with a standup with product and engineering to align on sprint goals, then diving into Figma to refine wireframes for a new energy insight widget. After lunch, you'd review user research findings from a usability test and collaborate with a UX researcher to plan the next study. You might end the day by contributing a new component to the design system or reviewing a developer's implementation.

🎯 Who Uplight Is Looking For

  • You have 5+ years designing digital products with a portfolio showcasing end-to-end work on complex, data-rich interfaces (e.g., dashboards, portals).
  • You're a full-stack designer comfortable with research, UX, UI, and prototyping, and you actively contribute to design systems.
  • You're fluent in Figma, Adobe Creative Suite, and user research tools, and you understand frontend capabilities like React or Angular.
  • You thrive in cross-functional teams, partnering with product managers and engineers to align on user problems and deliver measurable outcomes.

📝 Tips for Applying to Uplight

1

Tailor your portfolio to highlight projects involving energy, sustainability, or data visualization; show how you simplified complex information for users.

2

Mention any experience with design systems—specifically how you contributed to or leveraged a system like Uplight's UI Design System.

3

In your resume, quantify impact: e.g., 'Redesigned energy usage dashboard, increasing user engagement by 20%'.

4

Research Uplight's product (e.g., their customer portals) and reference specific features or improvements you'd bring.

5

Submit a brief (1-page) case study that demonstrates your full-stack design process—from research to visual design—for a similar challenge.
