How to Apply for Senior Engineer, Fullstack (Remote, US)

at Renew Home

๐Ÿข About Renew Home

Renew Home is building the largest residential virtual power plant in North America, partnering with major brands to manage home energy use for efficiency, savings, and comfort. Working here means directly contributing to a more sustainable grid while solving complex, consumer-facing problems at scale. The remote-first, mission-driven culture and focus on clean energy make it an attractive place for engineers who want their work to have environmental impact.

About This Role

As a Senior Fullstack Engineer on the User Lifecycle & Engagement team, you'll design and build both frontend and backend features that power how customers interact with Renew Home's energy-saving automation. You'll own critical product experience flows end-to-end, collaborating closely with product, analytics, and other engineers. Your work will directly shape how millions of users save energy and money, making this a high-impact role at the intersection of software and sustainability.

๐Ÿ’ก A Day in the Life

You might start your day with a stand-up with your cross-functional team, then dive into coding a new React component for a customer dashboard while also refining a backend API endpoint. Later, you'll pair with a product manager to refine requirements for an A/B test, and review analytics data to iterate on a feature that encourages energy-saving actions. You'll end the day deploying your changes and monitoring their impact in a collaborative, remote environment.

๐ŸŽฏ Who Renew Home Is Looking For

  • 5+ years of fullstack engineering experience, with strong proficiency in modern JavaScript/TypeScript, React (or similar), and Node.js or Python on the backend.
  • Proven track record of owning complex, consumer-facing product features from conception to deployment, ideally in a fast-paced startup or energy-tech environment.
  • Experience working cross-functionally with product, design, and data teams to translate business requirements into scalable technical solutions.
  • Comfort with remote collaboration and a passion for sustainability, energy efficiency, or climate tech (even if not directly experienced).

๐Ÿ“ Tips for Applying to Renew Home

1

Highlight any experience with consumer-facing platforms or IoT/energy management systems in your resume and cover letterโ€”Renew Home values domain relevance.

2

Emphasize your ability to own features end-to-end, from frontend UI to backend APIs, using concrete examples of shipped products.

3

Show familiarity with Renew Home's mission by mentioning their virtual power plant model or partnerships with brands like Google Nest and OhmConnect.

4

Demonstrate remote work success by describing how you've effectively collaborated with distributed teams and maintained high productivity.

5

Include metrics or outcomes (e.g., user engagement lift, performance improvements) to quantify your impact on previous projects.

โœ‰๏ธ What to Emphasize in Your Cover Letter

['Your motivation for joining a climate-tech company and specifically contributing to a virtual power plant that empowers residential energy savings.', 'Concrete examples of fullstack projects where you owned critical user flows and worked cross-functionally to deliver results.', "Your technical stack alignment (e.g., React, Node.js, cloud services) and how you've used it to build scalable consumer experiences.", 'Your approach to collaboration in remote settings and how you stay engaged with product and analytics teams to drive user engagement.']
