Due to expanding workload, AECOM are recruiting for Infrastructure, Residential & Commercial architect in the UK. AECOM are offering a great opportunity to join our rapidly growing architecture team in our multi-disciplinary offices in London, Aldgate. AECOM Architecture and Interiors is active in the following UK sectors: Infrastructure, Residential, Sports, Education, Healthcare, Rail, Defence, Government, Logistics, Industrial and Data Centres.

You’ll be working closely with the multi-disciplinary design teams, clients, and contractors. Excellent communication skills and a friendly outlook are essential.

AECOM’s design team in London is a dynamic multi-disciplinary collaborative team with divisions working across sports, healthcare, workplace, interiors, masterplanning, landscape and infrastructure work for major government departments. We work closely with our engineers and in-house specialists. Our large-scale complex projects will be of interest for architects who thrive in a challenging and dynamic environment.

 Project/Design Responsibilities

  • Contribute, from the onset of a project to the design of innovative and progressive design solutions that reconcile the client’s goals and priorities while fostering opportunities for design excellence.
  • To perform and/or direct material and building system research and participate in the coordination and preparation of project specifications.
  • Ensuring CDM Safety in Design and Sustainability principles are applied throughout all design stages of a project.
  • Be familiar with the Building Safety Act 2022 and the implications to the regulatory design of buildings and higher-risk buildings in England and Wales.

Managerial Responsibilities

  • Enthusiastic, positive and energetic project lead architect ready to work within a dynamic, agile and flexible team.
  • Organises own and technical staff to achieve set project deadlines.
  • Ensures, directly and through subordinates, that projects are completed on time and meet all requirements of the Design Brief, Client requirements and AECOM’s quality systems.
  • Responsible for the correctness, accuracy and complete multi-disciplinary coordination of the design documentation prepared by the assigned team.
  • Ensures the quality of technical work produced by team meets AECOM’s Technical Excellence and quality standards.
  • Applies advanced knowledge and experience to manage the day-to-day work of their team.
  • Routinely interacts with managers, seniors and clients, contractors, local authority representatives and others expertise and negotiation skills to resolve critical issues.
  • Responsible for key design input at early design phases and for general design execution during the course of the project.
  • Promotes teamwork within a multi-disciplinary team, maintaining positive moral and instilling a creative culture within the practice.
  • Make appropriate value judgements with respect to corrective work that supports the design concept and performance goals of the project.
  • Manage interface between Design Team / Site Team ensuring proper design support is provided in a timely manner.
  • Able to coordinate, plan, manage and monitor the project team’s compliance with the relevant regulatory requirements.
  • Support Principals and/or Directors with operational responsibilities which includes development and implementing Technical Excellence initiatives, management of resources (HR), training initiatives (CPD).
  • Support and develop their own team through guidance, coaching, mentoring and leadership.
  • Ensures the latest software, AI and digital techniques are utilised to increase productivity and training opportunities for staff are made available.

Commercial Responsibilities

  • Understands and implements design leadership and financial principles and able to work within project budgets which includes fees and designing to budget.
  • Assist in initial assessment of potential new projects, proposals and competitions.
  • Support Principals and/or Directors in the preparation of bids.
  • Support senior staff with existing and prospective clients.
  • Support marketing and business development initiatives.
