How to Apply for School Supports Ops Guide for Emerging Schools

at Wildflower Foundation

๐Ÿข About Wildflower Foundation

Wildflower Foundation supports a decentralized network of over 80 teacher-led Montessori schools across the U.S., focused on liberation and harmony. This is a unique opportunity to work with a grassroots, mission-driven organization that values autonomy, equity, and community-centered education. If you're passionate about reimagining schooling from the ground up, Wildflower offers a chance to directly impact emerging school leaders.

About This Role

As a School Supports Ops Guide, you'll coach Emerging Teacher Leaders (ETLs) through the critical startup phases of their schoolsโ€”from entity formation to operational planning. This role is highly relational and strategic, requiring you to co-create individualized support networks and track progress across multiple projects. Your work directly enables new Montessori schools to launch successfully, expanding access to liberatory education.

๐Ÿ’ก A Day in the Life

A typical day might start with a virtual check-in with an ETL to review their startup progress and address any blockers, followed by updating documentation and communicating updates to stakeholders. Afternoon could involve researching local resources for a new school leader or participating in a circle meeting with other Ops Guides to refine tools and share best practices. The day is a mix of coaching calls, project management, and collaborative problem-solving.

๐ŸŽฏ Who Wildflower Foundation Is Looking For

  • You have direct experience with school startup processes (entity formation, budgeting, enrollment, operational design) in diverse communities.
  • You are a skilled coach and facilitator who can guide teacher leaders through complex milestones with empathy and clarity.
  • You have a proven background in operations or project management, especially in educational or nonprofit settings.
  • You prioritize family engagement and community-based enrollment strategies, with a track record of recruiting students from diverse backgrounds.

๐Ÿ“ Tips for Applying to Wildflower Foundation

1

Tailor your resume to highlight specific startup milestones you've managed (e.g., entity formation, budget creation, enrollment targets) and quantify results where possible.

2

In your cover letter, explicitly connect your experience with Montessori or progressive education philosophiesโ€”even if indirect, show how you align with teacher-led, community-centered models.

3

Demonstrate your coaching style by describing a time you supported someone through a challenging startup phase, using specific examples of how you facilitated their growth.

4

Mention any experience working with diverse, multilingual, or underserved communities, as this is a priority for family engagement and enrollment.

5

Research Wildflower's network and mention a specific school or region you admire to show genuine interest.

โœ‰๏ธ What to Emphasize in Your Cover Letter

["Emphasize your hands-on experience with school startup logistics (entity formation, budgeting, enrollment) and how you've navigated challenges in diverse settings.", 'Show your coaching and facilitation skills, especially your ability to empower teacher leaders without micromanaging.', "Highlight your commitment to equity and community engagement, with examples of how you've built trust with families and recruited students from varied backgrounds.", "Express alignment with Wildflower's mission of liberation and harmony through teacher-led, Montessori-based education."]

๐Ÿ’ฌ Prepare for These Interview Topics

Based on this role, you may be asked about:

1 Walk us through how you would coach an ETL who is struggling to meet a startup milestone, such as securing a facility or hitting enrollment targets.
2 Describe a time you managed multiple complex projects simultaneously. How did you prioritize and track progress?
3 How would you approach building a support network for an ETL in a region with limited local resources?
4 What is your experience with family engagement and enrollment strategies in diverse communities? Give a specific example.
5 How do you balance providing guidance while respecting the teacher-led, autonomous nature of Wildflower schools?

โš ๏ธ Common Mistakes to Avoid

  • Don't focus only on your own achievements without connecting them to how you can support othersโ€”coaching and empowerment are key.
  • Avoid generic education jargon; instead, use specific language from the job description (e.g., 'entity formation,' 'community-based enrollment strategy').
  • Don't overlook the remote, contract nature of the roleโ€”show that you have experience working independently and managing your time across multiple projects.
