How to Apply for Sales Director SPP+
at Voltus
๐ข About Voltus
Voltus is a cleantech leader connecting distributed energy resources to optimize grid flexibility and combat climate change. Their platform enables commercial and industrial customers to monetize demand response, making them a key player in the energy transition. Working here means directly contributing to a more resilient, decarbonized grid.
About This Role
As Sales Director SPP+, you'll own the full sales cycle in the SPP and Markets+ territory, from cold outreach to contract close. You'll prospect and close net-new accounts among hospitals, universities, manufacturers, and municipalities, translating grid economics into tangible value. This role is critical to expanding Voltus's footprint in a growing energy market.
๐ก A Day in the Life
Start the day reviewing a list of target accounts in the SPP territory, then spend 2-3 hours on cold calls and email outreach. Midday, you might have a discovery call with a hospital facility manager to discuss their energy usage and Voltus's programs. Afternoon is for follow-ups, internal CRM updates, and preparing a proposal for a large manufacturer.

๐ฏ Who Voltus Is Looking For
- A proven hunter with a track record of self-generated outbound prospecting (cold calling and email) and closing net-new business.
- Experienced selling into commercial and industrial accounts, ideally with existing relationships in Colorado, Kansas City, Wyoming, or Oklahoma.
- Comfortable engaging facility managers, operations leaders, and financial decision-makers, and able to translate complex energy concepts into business value.
- Self-starter who thrives in a remote environment and can manage a full sales cycle independently.
๐ Tips for Applying to Voltus
Highlight specific metrics from past outbound prospecting: number of cold calls, emails, meetings set, and revenue closed from self-sourced leads.
Demonstrate knowledge of the SPP and Markets+ territories by mentioning any existing relationships or deals in those regions.
Tailor your resume to emphasize experience with C&I accounts like hospitals, universities, manufacturers, or municipalitiesโthese are Voltus's target verticals.
In your cover letter, explicitly connect your sales approach to Voltus's mission of grid flexibility and climate impact.
Research Voltus's demand response programs and mention how you would position them to different buyer personas (facility vs. financial).
โ๏ธ What to Emphasize in Your Cover Letter
['Your ability to self-generate pipeline through cold calling and email outreach in a remote setting.', 'Relevant experience selling to C&I accounts, especially in the SPP region or similar energy markets.', 'How you translate technical or grid concepts into financial and operational value for non-energy buyers.', "Passion for climate tech and grid modernization, aligning with Voltus's mission."]
