How to Apply for Regional Technical Sales Consultant - US Southeast Region

at HITACHI ENERGY

๐Ÿข About HITACHI ENERGY

Hitachi Energy is a global technology leader advancing sustainable energy systems toward a carbon-neutral future, with a strong focus on power grids, transformers, and high-voltage equipment. Working here means joining a company that is actively shaping the energy transition, with the backing of Hitachi's digital and industrial expertise. The Service Business unit specifically keeps critical grid infrastructure reliable, making this a high-impact place to grow a technical sales career.

About This Role

As a Regional Technical Sales Consultant for the US Southeast, you'll be the technical bridge between Hitachi Energy's sales teams and customers across the TVA region, traveling to sites to identify and develop service opportunities. You'll scope projects for power transformers and HV breakers, review technical specifications, and deliver solutions that include digital monitoring, electrical testing, controls, repairs, LTCs, oil processing, and breaker mechanisms. This role directly ensures grid reliability for major utilities while driving service revenue growth.

๐Ÿ’ก A Day in the Life

You might start the day remotely reviewing a customer's transformer maintenance request, then travel to a TVA site to inspect equipment and discuss service options with utility engineers. Later, you'd coordinate with internal sales and service teams to scope a project, prepare a technical proposal, and follow up on digital monitoring or oil testing recommendations. No two days are the same, but each one blends field technical work with customer-facing sales support.

๐ŸŽฏ Who HITACHI ENERGY Is Looking For

  • 5+ years of hands-on or field engineering experience with power transformers and/or high-voltage breakers, including assembly, testing, controls, repairs, and LTCs.
  • Proven ability to translate technical findings into service opportunities and project scopes that customers trust.
  • Comfortable with frequent travel across the US Southeast and working remotely while staying tightly coordinated with sales and service teams.
  • Familiarity with digital monitoring equipment, oil processing/testing, and breaker mechanisms, plus strong communication skills to interface with utility customers like TVA.

๐Ÿ“ Tips for Applying to HITACHI ENERGY

1

Reference the TVA region explicitly in your resume or cover letterโ€”show you understand the customer base and territory this role covers.

2

Use the exact technical keywords from the posting (LTCs, oil processing, oil testing, breaker mechanisms, digital monitoring, electrical testing) in your experience bullets to pass ATS and demonstrate fit.

3

Highlight any field service or site-travel experience, including specific transformer or breaker projects you scoped, tested, or repaired.

4

Mention Hitachi Energy's sustainability and carbon-neutral mission to show alignment with the company's broader purpose, not just the job tasks.

5

Apply through the Hitachi Energy careers portal using Job ID R0145540, and tailor your resume to emphasize sales-adjacent outcomes like identifying opportunities or supporting proposals.

โœ‰๏ธ What to Emphasize in Your Cover Letter

['Your direct technical experience with power transformers and HV breakers, especially in assembly, testing, controls, repairs, and LTCs.', 'A concrete example of how you identified a service opportunity, scoped it, and helped a customer improve reliability or avoid downtime.', 'Your ability and willingness to travel across the US Southeast and work effectively in a remote, customer-facing role.', "Why Hitachi Energy's service business and carbon-neutral mission specifically motivate you to bridge sales and technical teams."]

๐Ÿ” Research Before Applying

To stand out, make sure you've researched:

  • โ†’ Study Hitachi Energy's Service Business for power transformers and HV breakers, including their digital monitoring and grid automation solutions.
  • โ†’ Learn about TVA (Tennessee Valley Authority) as a key customer in the regionโ€”its grid, generation mix, and recent infrastructure investments.
  • โ†’ Review Hitachi Energy's sustainability strategy and carbon-neutral commitments to speak credibly about the company's mission.
  • โ†’ Look into common failure modes and maintenance practices for power transformers and HV breakers, such as LTC issues, oil degradation, and breaker mechanism wear.

๐Ÿ’ฌ Prepare for These Interview Topics

Based on this role, you may be asked about:

1 Walk us through a time you diagnosed a transformer or HV breaker issue on-site and turned it into a service recommendation.
2 How do you explain complex technical conceptsโ€”like LTC maintenance or digital monitoringโ€”to a utility customer who may not be an engineer?
3 Describe your experience with oil processing, oil testing, and electrical testing procedures on power transformers.
4 How would you prioritize and manage travel across the TVA region while coordinating with remote sales and service teams?
5 What do you know about Hitachi Energy's service offerings and how they support grid reliability and the energy transition?

โš ๏ธ Common Mistakes to Avoid

  • Submitting a generic resume that doesn't mention transformers, HV breakers, or the specific technical areas listed in the job description.
  • Ignoring the regional aspectโ€”failing to show awareness of TVA, the Southeast territory, or willingness to travel extensively.
  • Treating this as a pure sales role without demonstrating hands-on technical depth, or conversely as a pure engineering role without showing commercial awareness.
