How to Apply for Regional Campaign Manager, Southwest

at Greenlight America

🏢 About Greenlight America

Greenlight America is a mobilization hub that supports local and state-based groups across the U.S. working to get clean energy projects built in their communities. Unlike top-down environmental organizations, Greenlight America focuses on empowering grassroots coalitions and building diverse alliances (environmental, labor, faith, etc.). If you want to drive tangible clean energy progress at the local level and work with a nimble, impact-focused team, this is the place.

About This Role

As Regional Campaign Manager for the Southwest, you will lead campaigns for clean energy projects and ordinances, mobilizing volunteers and winning siting approvals. You will develop campaign plans, track milestones, manage budgets, and oversee grant agreements with partner organizations. This role is critical because the Southwest faces unique challenges (e.g., permitting, community opposition) and your work will directly accelerate the clean energy transition in key states.

💡 A Day in the Life

A typical day might start with a check-in with partner organizations in the Southwest to track campaign progress and troubleshoot challenges. You'll spend time analyzing campaign metrics, updating grant reports, and preparing training materials for volunteer leaders. Afternoon calls might include coalition meetings with environmental, labor, and faith groups, followed by drafting advocacy materials or a social media plan for an upcoming hearing.

📝 Tips for Applying to Greenlight America

1

1. Highlight specific examples of local campaign wins – e.g., a zoning approval, a clean energy ordinance, or a community organizing success – with concrete metrics (volunteers recruited, meetings held, votes won).

2

2. In your resume, use bullet points that mirror the job description: mention 'campaign plans,' 'budget management,' 'grant agreements,' and 'coalition building' explicitly.

3

3. Show your familiarity with the Southwest region – mention any experience in Arizona, New Mexico, Texas, or Nevada, and note knowledge of local clean energy politics or key stakeholders.

4

4. Tailor your cover letter to emphasize your ability to work remotely and manage multiple campaigns simultaneously; include a brief example of how you used digital tools to mobilize volunteers.

5

5. Demonstrate your commitment to clean energy and environmental justice – research Greenlight America's partner groups (e.g., Sunrise Movement, local chapters) and mention them in your application.

✉️ What to Emphasize in Your Cover Letter

- Emphasize your experience with grassroots organizing and winning local campaigns, especially in the Southwest or similar regions. - Highlight your project management skills: ability to track milestones, manage budgets, and oversee grant agreements. - Show your ability to build diverse coalitions – mention specific types of groups you've worked with (labor, faith, environmental). - Express passion for clean energy and understanding of the unique challenges in siting projects locally.

💬 Prepare for These Interview Topics

Based on this role, you may be asked about:

2 2. How do you manage multiple campaigns and budgets simultaneously? Walk me through your project management process.
3 3. Describe a situation where you built a coalition with diverse stakeholders (e.g., environmental and labor groups). How did you handle differing priorities?
4 4. What digital organizing tools are you proficient in? Give an example of how you used them to mobilize volunteers or track engagement.
5 5. How would you approach a campaign in a rural or politically conservative part of the Southwest? What messaging or tactics would you use?

⚠️ Common Mistakes to Avoid

  • 1. Don't focus only on national or federal policy experience – this role is about local, on-the-ground campaigns. Emphasize local work.
  • 2. Avoid generic statements about 'passion for the environment' without concrete examples of organizing or campaign management.
  • 3. Don't overlook the budget and grant management aspect – many applicants may neglect to highlight financial responsibility. Be sure to mention it.
