How to Apply for Project Officer, BirdsPlus Index

at American Bird Conservancy

๐Ÿข About American Bird Conservancy

American Bird Conservancy is a results-driven nonprofit dedicated to conserving wild birds and their habitats across the Americas, with a focus on halting extinctions and eliminating threats. What sets ABC apart is its entrepreneurial spirit and commitment to innovative, science-based solutions that benefit both birds and human communities. Working here means joining a fast-growing team that values impact, collaboration, and making a tangible difference for biodiversity.

About This Role

As Project Officer for the BirdsPlus Index, you will play a key role in growing an ambitious tool that uses birds (detected via acoustics) to measure biodiversity on working lands worldwide. Your work will directly support conservation efforts by evaluating and monitoring the conservation value of restoration, agroforestry, ranches, and other working lands. This is a unique opportunity to contribute to a cutting-edge initiative that transforms how conservation impact is measured and communicated.

๐Ÿ’ก A Day in the Life

A typical day might involve analyzing acoustic data from remote sites, coordinating with field teams to deploy monitoring equipment, and preparing reports or visualizations to communicate conservation impact to stakeholders. You might also attend virtual meetings with the BirdsPlus Index Director and partners, and occasionally travel to field sites to support implementation or training. Your work directly contributes to refining and expanding a tool that measures the true value of conservation on working lands.
