How to Apply for Program & Operations Manager (Builder Role)(remote or hybrid)

at finEQUITY.org

🏢 About finEQUITY.org

finEQUITY is a nonprofit dedicated to helping individuals impacted by incarceration achieve financial stability through a mix of direct financial support, coaching, and practical tools. Unlike larger, more established organizations, finEQUITY is in a building phase, so you’ll have the chance to shape programs and systems from the ground up. This is a unique opportunity to make a tangible impact on a underserved population while working in a dynamic, evolving environment.

About This Role

As the Program & Operations Manager (Builder), you’ll be a hands-on creator, turning participant needs and organizational ideas into functional programs, resources, and processes. You’ll operate existing programs like financial coaching and emergency assistance while also prototyping new solutions—whether that’s a participant guide, a streamlined application, or a no-code tool. This role is ideal for someone who thrives in ambiguity and enjoys both program development and operational execution.

💡 A Day in the Life

Your day might start with a check-in meeting with the coaching team, then you’ll spend time drafting a new participant guide or testing a no-code workflow for emergency assistance applications. Later, you might interview a participant about their experience with a program, then collaborate with a team member to refine a process based on that feedback. Expect a mix of hands-on creation, participant interaction, and iterative problem-solving.

🎯 Who finEQUITY.org Is Looking For

  • You have direct experience in program development or operations, ideally in a nonprofit or social impact setting, and are comfortable building processes from scratch.
  • You’re a strong communicator who can engage with participants empathetically and translate their feedback into actionable improvements.
  • You’re tech-savvy and curious about no-code tools, digital product development, or workflow automation—even if you’re not a developer.
  • You’re energized by the chaos of a growing organization and can juggle multiple projects while maintaining attention to detail.

📝 Tips for Applying to finEQUITY.org

1

Highlight any experience you have with reentry, incarceration, or financial empowerment programs—even if it’s volunteer work—because finEQUITY values lived experience and sector knowledge.

2

Showcase your ability to build: describe a specific program, process, or tool you created from scratch, including the problem it solved and the impact it had.

3

Demonstrate comfort with ambiguity by sharing an example where you had to figure out what to do without clear guidance, and how you approached it.

4

If you have no-code or digital product skills, mention them explicitly and describe how you’ve used them to improve operations or user experience.

5

Tailor your resume to emphasize both program operations and hands-on creation—avoid language that makes you sound like a high-level strategist who only delegates.

✉️ What to Emphasize in Your Cover Letter

In your cover letter, focus on: (1) your motivation to support formerly incarcerated individuals in achieving financial stability, (2) a concrete example of a program or process you built and its results, (3) your ability to operate in a test-and-learn environment, and (4) how you balance participant empathy with operational efficiency.

⚠️ Common Mistakes to Avoid

  • Avoid sounding like a pure manager or strategist—this role requires hands-on building, so emphasize your willingness to roll up your sleeves.
  • Don’t ignore the population finEQUITY serves; showing no awareness of incarceration or reentry issues will make you seem out of touch.
