How to Apply for Product & Design Lead

at Qwello

๐Ÿข About Qwello

Qwello is at the forefront of Europe's electric transition, designing user-focused EV chargers that are both functional and aesthetically pleasing. Their mission directly contributes to climate goals, making them a purpose-driven company where your work has tangible environmental impact. As a remote-first EU company, they offer flexibility while tackling a critical infrastructure challenge.

About This Role

As Product & Design Lead, you will own end-to-end product initiatives, from identifying customer pain points to launching solutions that shape the EV charging experience. You'll bridge product strategy and design execution, ensuring every feature meets a high bar for usability while aligning cross-functional teams. This role is impactful because you'll define how millions of Europeans interact with EV chargers, directly accelerating adoption.

๐Ÿ’ก A Day in the Life

Your day might start with a stand-up with engineering and design to review progress on a new charging feature. Mid-morning, you'll analyze user feedback from beta testers, then sketch wireframes for a simplified payment flow. After lunch, you'll meet with legal to discuss compliance for a new market, and end the day reviewing design specs with the team.

๐ŸŽฏ Who Qwello Is Looking For

  • You have extensive experience in product management and product design, ideally in a hybrid role where you've owned both strategy and execution.
  • You have a proven track record of leading complex, cross-functional initiatives from problem definition to successful delivery, especially in hardware-software or IoT contexts.
  • You are customer-obsessed, with excellent product judgment and a deep understanding of UX principles, able to provide constructive design feedback.
  • You thrive in a startup environment, comfortable with ambiguity, and skilled at aligning stakeholders from engineering to legal.

๐Ÿ“ Tips for Applying to Qwello

1

Highlight specific examples of end-to-end product initiatives you've led, emphasizing how you balanced product strategy with hands-on design work.

2

Show your customer-first mindset by including user research insights or how you've used data to drive product decisions.

3

Tailor your portfolio or resume to include EV, energy, or sustainability projects, even if personal or side projects.

4

Demonstrate cross-functional leadership: describe how you aligned diverse teams (e.g., engineering, marketing, legal) to deliver a product.

5

In your cover letter, explicitly connect your experience to Qwello's mission of accelerating Europe's electric transition.

โœ‰๏ธ What to Emphasize in Your Cover Letter

['Express genuine passion for sustainability and EV infrastructure, linking it to your personal or professional values.', 'Emphasize your hybrid product & design background, showing you can own both strategy and execution.', 'Provide a concrete example of a complex initiative you led from discovery to launch, highlighting your role in design direction.', 'Mention your comfort with remote collaboration and cross-cultural EU teams.']

๐Ÿ’ฌ Prepare for These Interview Topics

Based on this role, you may be asked about:

1 Walk me through a product initiative where you had to balance user needs, business goals, and technical constraints.
2 How do you approach defining product direction when there is ambiguity or conflicting stakeholder input?
3 Describe a time you provided design feedback that significantly improved the user experience.
4 How would you prioritize features for an EV charger product considering both hardware and software constraints?
5 What metrics would you use to measure success of a new charging feature, and how would you iterate based on data?

โš ๏ธ Common Mistakes to Avoid

  • Don't focus solely on software product management without acknowledging hardware constraintsโ€”EV chargers involve physical design and manufacturing.
  • Avoid generic portfolio examples; ensure they demonstrate both product thinking and design skills.
  • Don't overlook the importance of cross-functional alignmentโ€”this role requires working with legal, operations, etc.
