๐ข About RMI
RMI is a leading nonpartisan nonprofit that partners with businesses, policymakers, and communities to accelerate the clean energy transition, with a bold goal of transforming global energy systems by 2030. Working here means joining a mission-driven, entrepreneurial team that punches above its weight in impact, influencing markets and policies at scale. The culture values independence, collaboration, and systems thinking, making it ideal for those who want to tackle complex energy challenges without partisan constraints.
About This Role
As Principal, Power Systems & Data Centers, you will build and lead RMIโs cross-program strategy and advisory work focused on the rapidly growing data center sector. You will integrate expertise from teams like Electricity, Buildings, Industries, and Climate Finance to address challenges spanning electricity systems, generation and transmission, water, backup power, site selection, permitting, finance, and community engagement. This role is pivotal in shaping how AI and digital infrastructure growth can align with a clean, resilient energy future.

You might start your day with a cross-team call to align on a proposal for a major data center client, then dive into analyzing transmission interconnection options for a new facility. Later, you'd brief RMI leadership on strategy, mentor junior staff, and engage with an external partner on a joint initiative to accelerate clean backup power solutions.
