How to Apply for Power BI & Power Platform Developer (MEL Data Officer)

at ORBIS International

๐Ÿข About ORBIS International

Orbis International is a unique nonprofit that delivers sight-saving programs in over 200 countries, leveraging technology to maximize impact. Working here means contributing to a mission-driven organization where your data skills directly help prevent blindness and improve lives globally.

About This Role

As a Power BI & Power Platform Developer, you will design and maintain data pipelines, build Power BI dashboards, and support MEL teams worldwide. Your work ensures that Orbis can monitor program performance, improve data quality, and make evidence-based decisions to save sight.

๐Ÿ’ก A Day in the Life

Your day might start with a stand-up with the global MEL team to prioritize dashboard requests. You'll spend time building data pipelines in Azure Synapse, troubleshooting a data integration issue with a country office, and training a program officer on a new Power BI report. You'll also collaborate with IS/IT to ensure data security and compliance.

๐ŸŽฏ Who ORBIS International Is Looking For

  • Expert in Power BI, Dataverse, SQL, Python, and Azure Synapse with hands-on data engineering experience.
  • Proven ability to integrate data across multiple systems and countries, handling diverse data sources and standards.
  • Skilled in providing technical support and training to non-technical MEL stakeholders globally.
  • Passionate about using data for social impact and comfortable working in a remote, international nonprofit environment.

๐Ÿ“ Tips for Applying to ORBIS International

1

Highlight specific projects where you built end-to-end data pipelines from source to Power BI dashboards, especially with Dataverse or Azure Synapse.

2

Emphasize experience working with global teams and integrating data across different countries, including handling localization and data privacy issues.

3

Showcase your ability to train and support non-technical usersโ€”mention any workshops or documentation you created.

4

Tailor your resume to include MEL or monitoring & evaluation experience, even if in a different sector, to demonstrate domain understanding.

5

In your cover letter, connect your technical skills to Orbis's mission: explain how your data solutions can help track and improve sight-saving programs.

โœ‰๏ธ What to Emphasize in Your Cover Letter

['Your passion for using data to drive social impact, specifically in global health or nonprofit settings.', 'Concrete examples of building Power BI dashboards and data models that improved decision-making.', 'Experience with cross-country data integration and ensuring data quality across diverse sources.', 'Ability to collaborate with MEL teams and provide training to stakeholders with varying technical backgrounds.']
