Policy Director, Generalist

• Develop and advocate for pragmatic AI safety policies at the state level, focusing on passing and enforcing legislation to reduce severe risks from advanced AI.
• Engage with legislators, agencies, and AI companies to advance policy objectives and secure support.
• Write policy materials including legislative analysis, recommendations, and op-eds for various audiences.
• Draft and review legislative text to align with policy objectives and make pragmatic political compromises.

This role directly shapes state-level AI safety legislation, reducing risks from advanced AI and ensuring responsible development of transformative technologies.

• Experience in policy development, advocacy, or government relations, preferably in AI or technology policy.
• Strong writing and analytical skills for drafting legislative text and policy materials.
• Ability to engage with diverse stakeholders including legislators, agencies, and companies.
• Understanding of AI safety issues and legislative processes.
