Organization Overview Limitless Horizons Ixil (LHI) creates opportunities for the Indigenous youth, women, and families of Chajul, Guatemala to develop the academic and professional skills needed to effect change in their lives and community. Led by an all-female, majority-Indigenous leadership team, we run a full-day secondary school, Colegio Horizontes ; the Saber Sin Lรญmites Community Library , Chajul's first public library; and our Emerging Leaders program supporting alumni through their post-secondary transitions in the rural highlands in an isolated Ixil-speaking community which was at the heart of the Guatemala armed conflict and where educational opportunities are extremely scarce. In 2026, we'll celebrate our first-ever high school graduationโa first in their family for many of our graduates and a historic milestone for Chajul. LHI is a registered U.S. 501(c)(3) organization that also partners closely with a Guatemalan accounting team to support its in-country NGO operations. Purpose The Non-Profit Bookkeeper maintains accurate, up-to-date accrual accounting records for Limitless Horizons Ixil. This position owns monthly bank and donation reconciliations, expense documentation and categorization, and quarterly financial reporting, while partnering with the Board Treasurer, Executive Director, Director of Development, and LHI's Guatemalan accounting team to ensure the organization's financial records are complete, accurate, and audit ready. Reports To The Executive Director with matrix reporting to the Board Treasurer Supervisory Responsibilities This position has no supervisory responsibilities. Key Responsibilities Maintain accurate accrual accounting records and ensure entries are up to date. For the U.S. 501(c)(3), reconcile all monthly transactions for bank accounts to supporting documentation. Reconcile donations monthly between eTapestry (donor database), bank transactions, and Xero (accounting software), approximately 30 to 50 transactions per month. Utilize Hubdoc for documentation and categorization of expenses monthly, following up with team members to obtain any missing receipts, approximately 100 to 125 transactions per month. Record monthly accounting entries related to CDs and quarterly accounting entries related to investment accounts. Input the annual budget and prepare quarterly financial reports for review by the Board Treasurer, Executive Director, and Director of Development. Keep organized digital records using Google Drive and Hubdoc. Aid in preparing financial reports for grant applications and other ad hoc requests. Work with LHI's Guatemalan accountant to ensure NGO records are complete and accurate. Potential to expand into more areas, including assisting with the annual budget process, drafting annual financial statements for audit, and interacting with auditors, and/or drafting the annual Form 990, related extension filings, and other state filings. Education and Experience Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field preferred 5 to 7 years bookkeeping or accounting experience, ideally within a nonprofit or NGO environment Working knowledge of U.S. GAAP required Knowledge of local Guatemalan statutory accounting a plus Certificates, Licenses, Registrations No certificates, licenses, and/or registrations are required for this position. Other Skills and Abilities Must be fluent in English and have advanced Spanish conversational and writing ability. Strong Excel skills. Prior experience with accounting software or ERP system with ability to quickly learn multiple platforms. Strong attention to detail and accuracy in reconciliation and reporting. Ability to work independently and manage recurring monthly and quarterly deadlines in a remote setting. Good written and oral communication skills to effectively collaborate with U.S. and Guatemala-based team members. Discretion and ability to maintain confidentiality of sensitive financial information. Comfort working across time zones and cultures in a small, mission-driven nonprofit environment.
