National Service Officer (NSO)

• Provide claims and appeals assistance to blind and visually impaired veterans and their dependents for VA disability compensation, pension, ancillary, and death benefits.
• Counsel veterans to seek blind rehabilitation training and obtain employment for maximum independence and self-esteem.
• Develop working relationships with federal, state, and county agencies; perform research and investigation of prior claim decisions for possible appeal.

This role directly supports blind and visually impaired veterans in securing essential benefits and rehabilitation, empowering them to achieve independence and improved quality of life.

• Bachelor’s degree in human services or business-related field and minimum two years’ experience in Veteran Service work, or equivalent combination.
• Blind or visually impaired, honorably-discharged military veteran preferred with extensive knowledge of veteran benefits and military culture.
• Must obtain and maintain VA accreditation and pass the National Veterans Legal Services Program written exam within one month of hire.

Exempt full-time position with local and national travel required. Salary not specified.
