How to Apply for Mentor Consultant

at Oregon Infant Mental Health Association

🏢 About Oregon Infant Mental Health Association

ORIMHA is a statewide nonprofit dedicated to the emotional health of Oregon’s youngest children and their families, uniquely advancing the field through its Endorsement program and Reflective Supervision. Working here means joining a mission-driven team that values equity, trauma-informed care, and professional growth in the specialized niche of infant mental health.

About This Role

As a Mentor Consultant, you will provide reflective consultation and coaching to Infant and Early Childhood Mental Health Consultants across Oregon, both individually and in groups. This role is impactful because you directly shape the quality of statewide consultation services, supporting new consultants in developing culturally responsive, trauma-informed practices that strengthen families and communities.

💡 A Day in the Life

A typical day might include two to three individual reflective supervision sessions with consultants via video call, followed by facilitating a small-group community of practice on a topic like trauma-informed care. You’d also spend time reviewing onboarding materials for a new consultant, collaborating with the Mentor Consultant team on a training tool, and responding to emails from consultants seeking guidance on a challenging case.

🎯 Who Oregon Infant Mental Health Association Is Looking For

  • Holds a master’s degree in mental health, early childhood, or related field, and is licensed (LCSW, LPC, LMFT) or actively working toward licensure.
  • Has 3+ years of experience in infant or early childhood mental health, with strong skills in reflective supervision and consultation.
  • Demonstrates deep commitment to culturally responsive, trauma-informed, and equity-centered practices, modeling these in every interaction.
  • Possesses excellent listening and reflective conversation abilities, and can facilitate both individual and small-group learning spaces effectively.

⚠️ Common Mistakes to Avoid

  • Submitting a generic cover letter that doesn’t mention infant mental health, Oregon, or ORIMHA’s specific mission.
  • Failing to provide concrete examples of reflective supervision or consultation—vague descriptions of “supporting others” won’t stand out.
  • Overlooking the equity and cultural responsiveness focus; don’t just list diversity as a value—show how you’ve operationalized it in your work.
