How to Apply for Marketing Operations Specialist

at Nautilus Solar Energy

🏢 About Nautilus Solar Energy

Nautilus Solar Energy develops, owns, and operates community solar farms that expand access to clean energy for renters, low-income households, and businesses that can't install rooftop solar. As a remote-first company with a mission-driven culture, it offers the rare chance to apply sophisticated marketing operations skills to a sector where your work directly accelerates equitable energy adoption. Employees get to work at the intersection of renewable energy, community impact, and growth marketing—without a daily commute.

About This Role

This Marketing Operations Specialist role is the technical and operational backbone of Nautilus's digital marketing engine. You'll own HubSpot administration end-to-end—from workflows and lifecycle tracking to reporting and data hygiene—while also managing paid media campaigns and optimizing the website for traffic, engagement, and conversion. Your work will directly enable sales, policy, origination, and customer care teams to reach priority markets more efficiently and measure what actually drives customer acquisition and retention.

💡 A Day in the Life

A typical day might start with checking HubSpot dashboards for lead flow and data health, then building or refining a workflow for a new market campaign. You could spend the afternoon updating landing pages for an upcoming paid media push, syncing with sales on lead quality feedback, and troubleshooting an integration between HubSpot and an attribution tool. Occasional travel brings you together with marketing and cross-functional teammates for planning or campaign reviews.

🎯 Who Nautilus Solar Energy Is Looking For

  • 5+ years of hands-on digital marketing experience with at least 2–3 years as a HubSpot power user (Marketing Hub and Ops Hub), including building complex workflows, managing lists, and troubleshooting integrations.
  • Proven ability to connect marketing data across systems—HubSpot, attribution tools, and third-party platforms—to ensure accurate lead capture, lifecycle tracking, and reliable reporting for sales and leadership.
  • Comfortable owning both the technical and creative sides of web operations: updating content and metadata, improving UX/UI, and applying SEO/AEO best practices to grow traffic and conversion.
  • A collaborative, data-driven operator who can translate business needs from sales, policy, origination, and customer care into scalable marketing operations processes.

📝 Tips for Applying to Nautilus Solar Energy

1

Lead with HubSpot: In your resume and cover letter, quantify specific HubSpot outcomes—e.g., 'built 40+ lifecycle workflows that increased MQL-to-SQL conversion by 22%' or 'cleaned 15K+ contacts and reduced bounce rate by 18%.'

2

Show you understand community solar: Mention how marketing operations supports customer acquisition and retention in a mission-driven, regulated energy market—this proves you've done homework beyond generic SaaS marketing.

3

Highlight cross-functional collaboration: Nautilus explicitly names sales, policy, origination, and customer care. Share an example of how you aligned marketing ops with non-marketing teams to improve lead quality or reporting.

4

Demonstrate remote work discipline: Since this is fully remote with occasional travel, briefly note your experience managing async workflows, documentation, and communication across time zones.

5

Use the cover letter to connect the dots: Don't just list skills—explain why Nautilus's mission to expand equitable clean energy access motivates you to bring operational rigor to their marketing stack.

✉️ What to Emphasize in Your Cover Letter

Focus on: (1) your hands-on HubSpot administration experience, including specific workflows, integrations, and data hygiene wins; (2) a concrete example of how you've used marketing operations to improve lead capture, lifecycle tracking, or attribution across multiple systems; (3) your ability to optimize websites for SEO/AEO and conversion, ideally with measurable traffic or engagement growth; and (4) your motivation to apply these skills to a mission-driven community solar company that serves priority markets.

  • → Review Nautilus's website and digital presence: note their current use of HubSpot (forms, landing pages, CTAs), SEO structure, and any visible marketing automation, then think about opportunities you'd propose.
  • → Research the community solar industry and its unique marketing challenges—e.g., subscriber acquisition, policy-driven market changes, and retention—so you can speak to industry-specific operations needs.
  • → Look up the backgrounds of Nautilus's marketing and sales leadership on LinkedIn to understand their priorities and how the marketing ops role fits into the broader revenue team.

⚠️ Common Mistakes to Avoid

  • Submitting a generic marketing ops resume that doesn't mention HubSpot by name or quantify automation, integration, or data hygiene results.
  • Treating this like a generalist digital marketing role—failing to emphasize the systems administration, cross-functional data alignment, and website optimization aspects that are central to the job.
  • Ignoring the mission and industry context: not showing any interest in or understanding of community solar, equitable energy access, or how marketing operations supports a mission-driven organization.
