How to Apply for Manager, Regional Mobilization - South, 2 Year Fixed Term

at Amnesty International USA

🏢 About Amnesty International USA

Amnesty International USA is part of a global movement of over 10 million people dedicated to protecting human rights. What sets AIUSA apart is its grassroots-driven approach, where activists and members lead the charge in creating change through local organizing, storytelling, and advocacy. Working here means joining a mission-driven team that values intersectionality, inclusivity, and bold action.

About This Role

As the Manager of Regional Mobilization for the South, you will spearhead grassroots organizing across 11 states, training and empowering volunteer leaders to build a powerful, member-led movement. This role is critical for amplifying voices in the South, a region with unique human rights challenges, and for strengthening AIUSA's on-the-ground impact through strategic mobilization and partnership building.

💡 A Day in the Life

A typical day might start with a virtual check-in with volunteer leaders in Mississippi, followed by planning a training webinar for new activists across the region. You could spend the afternoon reviewing mobilization data, coordinating with partner organizations on a voting rights campaign, and ending the day by drafting a toolkit for local groups to use in their advocacy.

🎯 Who Amnesty International USA Is Looking For

  • Has at least 3-5 years of experience in grassroots organizing, community mobilization, or volunteer management, preferably in the Southern US.
  • Demonstrates strong training and facilitation skills, with the ability to develop diverse activist leaders and build sustainable local structures.
  • Excels at working collaboratively with volunteers, staff, and partner organizations, and can manage complex regional operations remotely.
  • Is deeply committed to human rights and social justice, with an understanding of the specific issues affecting Southern communities (e.g., voting rights, criminal justice reform, immigrant rights).

📝 Tips for Applying to Amnesty International USA

1

Tailor your resume to highlight specific examples of grassroots organizing campaigns you've led or supported, especially in the South.

2

In your cover letter, mention your experience training volunteers or developing leaders, and tie it to AIUSA's mission of building a member-led movement.

3

Research AIUSA's current campaigns (e.g., 'Write for Rights,' 'People's Power') and reference how your skills align with their mobilization strategies.

4

Show that you understand the unique political and cultural landscape of the South by mentioning specific states or local issues you've worked on.

5

Since the role is remote, emphasize your ability to manage regional operations independently, including virtual communication tools and self-motivation.

✉️ What to Emphasize in Your Cover Letter

["Your passion for human rights and alignment with AIUSA's grassroots, member-led approach.", "Concrete examples of how you've trained and empowered volunteer leaders to take action.", 'Your experience organizing in the South or with Southern communities, and your understanding of regional challenges.', 'Your ability to work remotely and manage logistics for events, trainings, and campaigns across multiple states.']

⚠️ Common Mistakes to Avoid

  • Being too generic: Avoid vague statements about 'loving human rights' without showing specific knowledge of AIUSA's work or the South.
  • Overlooking the '2-year fixed term' aspect: Don't seem unaware that this is a temporary role; address your interest in project-based work.
  • Neglecting remote work skills: Failing to mention how you stay organized, communicate virtually, or build community online can hurt your candidacy.
