MANAGER, FINANCE & ACCOUNTING US REPORTS TO Global Finance Leadership SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES Supervises staff members and contractors. LOCATION Remote, in an approved location in the United States. Occasional domestic and international travel to be expected. JOB SUMMARY The Manager, Accounting & Finance, US is responsible for the day-to-day accounting and financial management of RAP’s U.S. entity. The role ensures that financial transactions are accurately recorded, accounts are reconciled, financial reporting is timely and accurate, and established financial controls and processes are consistently followed. This is a hands-on role combining strong accounting expertise with budgeting, forecasting, financial analysis and management and Board reporting. The Manager works closely with Global Finance, Grants & Contracts, Human Resources, program teams, and budget owners to ensure that U.S. financial information is accurate, understandable, and useful for effective decision-making. The successful candidate will be comfortable moving between detailed accounting work and the bigger financial picture, with the ability to identify issues, explain what the numbers mean and translate financial results into clear, practical reporting for colleagues and leadership. CORE COMPETENCIES Strong knowledge of general ledger accounting, reconciliations, close, financial reporting, budgeting, and financial controls, with the ability to independently manage routine accounting processes. Proficiency with financial software including General Ledger, Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, Projects, Consolidation and Reporting modules. Able to interpret financial information, identify trends and variances, investigate discrepancies, and recognize when issues require escalation. Able to translate financial results into clear, concise, and decision-useful information for budget owners, leadership, and Board audiences. Takes responsibility for assigned financial processes, meets deadlines, and follows issues through to resolution. Identifies root causes, proposes practical solutions, and looks for opportunities to improve financial processes. Business Partnership- Builds effective relationships with program teams and budget owners while maintaining appropriate financial controls and accountability. Uses financial systems and data effectively and identifies opportunities to improve reporting, automation, and efficiency. Works effectively across global functions in a distributed organization. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Accounting Operations & Financial Reporting Manage monthly, quarterly, and year-end accounting close activities for the U.S. entity. Maintain the integrity of the U.S. general ledger and ensure balance sheet accounts are appropriately reconciled, reviewed, and supported. Manage day-to-day accounting activities including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll accounting, banking, expense accounting, accruals, prepaid expenses, and fixed assets. Prepare and review journal entries, reconciliations, allocations, and supporting schedules. Investigate accounting discrepancies and unreconciled balances and coordinate corrective action. Prepare accurate and timely financial statements and supporting financial reports. Ensure transactions are recorded consistently with U.S. Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), organizational policies, and established accounting procedures. Provide accurate U.S. financial information to support consolidated global financial reporting. Support tax filings, regulatory reporting, and other U.S. financial compliance requirements. Budgeting, Forecasting & Financial Analysis Coordinate the annual U.S. budgeting process in partnership with Global Finance and budget owners. Prepare monthly budget-to-actual reporting and variance analysis. Investigate significant variances and work with budget owners to understand underlying drivers. Prepare financial analysis to support management decision-making. Develop and maintain financial models, reports and dashboards that improve visibility into financial performance. Identify emerging financial trends, risks and opportunities and escalate significant matters to Global Finance leadership. Management & Board Reporting Prepare accurate and timely monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reporting packages for management, the Finance Committee and Board. Prepare financial statements, budget-to-actual reporting, forecasts, cash-flow information, and other financial analyses for Board reporting. Develop clear financial commentary explaining significant variances, trends, risks, and emerging issues. Translate complex financial information into accessible reporting for non-financial stakeholders. Work with Global Finance leadership to prepare financial materials and analysis for Board and Finance Committee meetings. Present routine financial information to leadership and, as appropriate, support presentations to the Finance Committee and Board. Respond to follow-up questions and prepare supporting financial analysis related to U.S. financial performance. Financial Controls, Compliance & Audit Implement and maintain established financial controls and accounting procedures for U.S. operations. Maintain documentation of key accounting processes, controls, and procedures. Coordinate preparation of schedules, reconciliations, and supporting documentation for the annual audit. Serve as a day-to-day contact for external auditors and coordinate responses to audit requests. Support implementation of audit recommendations and remediation activities. Maintain audit-ready financial records throughout the year. Support compliance with applicable U.S. nonprofit, tax, grant, and financial reporting requirements. Grants, Restricted Funding & Resource Allocation Partner with Grants Management and program teams to ensure alignment between accounting records, grant budgets, and financial reporting. Financial Support & Business Partnership Serve as the primary day-to-day finance contact for U.S. budget owners and program teams. Provide practical financial guidance and support to colleagues without finance backgrounds. Support managers in understanding the financial implications of operational decisions. Identify and escalate significant financial risks, unusual transactions, or policy questions. Systems & Process Improvement Support effective use and ongoing optimization of financial systems. Identify opportunities to streamline workflows, strengthen controls, and reduce manual processes. Support integration and reconciliation between accounting, payroll, expense, grants, and budgeting systems. Maintain clear process documentation and standard operating procedures. Participate in Global Finance system implementations and process-improvement initiatives. Develop practical tools, templates and reporting solutions that improve efficiency, accuracy, and consistency . MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, business administration or a related field, or equivalent relevant professional experience. Minimum of 5 years of progressively responsible accounting and finance experience. Strong working knowledge of U.S. Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP). Demonstrated experience with general ledger accounting, month-end close, balance sheet reconciliations and financial reporting. Experience with accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll accounting and expense management. Demonstrated experience with budgeting, forecasting, variance analysis, and management reporting. Experience preparing financial information for senior management and/or Boards or Finance Committees. Experience preparing for and supporting external audits. Experience in a nonprofit, grant-funded or similarly complex organization strongly preferred. Experience with restricted funding, grant accounting, revenue recognition, and cost allocations strongly preferred. Certified Public Accountant, Certified Management Accountant, Certified Nonprofit Accounting Professional, Association of Chartered Certified Accountants, or comparable professional qualifications are desirable but not required.
