How to Apply for Manager - Finance & Accounting

at Resilient Cities Network

🏢 About Resilient Cities Network

Resilient Cities Network (R-Cities) is a unique global organization that connects over 100 cities across 46 countries to share solutions for urban resilience. Working here means contributing to a mission-driven network that helps cities adapt to climate change, social challenges, and economic shocks, with a direct impact on millions of lives.

About This Role

This role is the backbone of R-Cities' financial operations, overseeing day-to-day accounting, multi-entity close processes, and compliance across Dutch and US jurisdictions. You'll ensure financial integrity for a growing global network, directly supporting grant reporting and donor trust.

💡 A Day in the Life

A typical day might start with reviewing cash positions and approving intercompany transfers across entities, followed by reconciling multi-currency transactions. You'd then prepare management reports for budget vs actuals, coordinate with external auditors on a Dutch tax filing, and end the day by refining a new internal control procedure.

🎯 Who Resilient Cities Network Is Looking For

  • Experienced in multi-entity, multi-currency accounting with at least 5 years of progressive ownership of month-end and year-end close.
  • Familiar with either Dutch or US GAAP/tax rules, and eager to learn the other quickly.
  • Hands-on with Sage Intacct or similar cloud ERP, and comfortable improving systems and controls.
  • Detail-oriented with a strong internal-controls mindset, able to work independently in a remote, international setting.

📝 Tips for Applying to Resilient Cities Network

1

Highlight your experience with multi-entity consolidations and intercompany accounting in your resume.

2

Mention specific proficiency with Sage Intacct; if you lack it, show quick learning with other ERPs.

3

Demonstrate knowledge of either Dutch or US accounting standards by citing relevant projects or audits.

4

Tailor your cover letter to show passion for urban resilience and mission-driven work, not just finance.

5

Prepare a brief example of how you improved a financial process or internal control in a previous role.

✉️ What to Emphasize in Your Cover Letter

['Emphasize your ability to manage complex, multi-jurisdictional accounting independently.', 'Show your experience coordinating external audits and statutory filings with advisors.', 'Connect your financial skills to the nonprofit/mission-driven sector, especially grant compliance.', 'Express enthusiasm for learning the other accounting standard (Dutch or US) and contributing to global impact.']

  • Learn about the differences between Dutch and US accounting standards (e.g., IFRS vs US GAAP).
  • Familiarize yourself with Sage Intacct's features if you haven't used it before.

⚠️ Common Mistakes to Avoid

  • Don't overlook the multi-entity and multi-currency aspects; generic accounting experience isn't enough.
  • Avoid claiming expertise in both Dutch and US standards if you only know one; honesty is better.
  • Don't neglect to mention remote work experience; the role is fully remote and requires self-discipline.
