How to Apply for Lead Data Product Manager

at Workiva

๐Ÿข About Workiva

Workiva is at the forefront of integrated ESG reporting, offering a platform that helps organizations streamline climate impact and compliance. This mission-driven focus on sustainability combined with a remote-first culture makes it an attractive place for those who want to make a tangible environmental impact while working flexibly.

About This Role

As Lead Data Product Manager, you will own the data product roadmap for Finance and People & Culture, translating business needs into data products that drive decision-making. Your work directly impacts how Workiva manages its financial and human capital data, ensuring accuracy and reliability across critical internal functions.

๐Ÿ’ก A Day in the Life

Your day might start with a stand-up with the Data Engineering team to discuss pipeline progress, followed by a meeting with Finance stakeholders to review their reporting needs. After lunch, you'd analyze product usage metrics, then draft user stories for the next sprint, ending the day with a cross-functional alignment session on the People & Culture data roadmap.

๐ŸŽฏ Who Workiva Is Looking For

  • Has 6+ years in product management with at least 3 years focused on data products, analytics platforms, or data infrastructure.
  • Demonstrates experience building data products in Finance, HR, Legal, or operations domains, with a track record of driving adoption and measuring impact.
  • Possesses strong technical understanding of data pipelines, dimensional modeling, semantic layers, and modern analytics stacks (dbt, Snowflake, BI platforms).
  • Is proficient in SQL and comfortable independently querying and validating data.

๐Ÿ“ Tips for Applying to Workiva

1

Highlight specific data products you've built in Finance or HR domains, emphasizing how you translated business priorities into technical roadmaps.

2

Quantify the impact of your data products (e.g., improved data accuracy by X%, reduced reporting time by Y%).

3

Showcase your cross-functional collaboration experience, especially with Analytics and Data Engineering teams.

4

Mention any experience with ESG or sustainability data, as it aligns with Workiva's mission.

5

Tailor your resume to emphasize data product management over general PM experience; use terms like 'data product roadmap', 'semantic layer', 'dimensional modeling'.

โœ‰๏ธ What to Emphasize in Your Cover Letter
