How to Apply for KIP Spring 2027 - Hackathons Intern - Foundation for Economic Education

at Standtogether

๐Ÿข About Standtogether

The Foundation for Economic Education (FEE) is a 80-year-old nonprofit dedicated to advancing the principles of a free society through education, events, and publications. Stand Together Fellowships, which runs the KIP program, offers a unique opportunity to work at the intersection of nonprofit innovation and classical liberal ideas, making it ideal for someone passionate about economic freedom and student engagement.

About This Role

As the Hackathons Intern, you will help design and execute immersive, educational hackathon-style events for students aged 11-26, combining a love for free-market ideas with event planning and logistics. You'll work with FEE's Student Engagement team to create high-impact experiences that inspire the next generation, both in-person and virtually, across the US and potentially internationally.

๐Ÿ’ก A Day in the Life

A typical day might involve brainstorming hackathon themes with the Student Engagement team, coordinating logistics with vendors or schools, and creating promotional materials. You could also be reviewing applications for participants, troubleshooting technical issues for a virtual event, or analyzing feedback to improve future hackathons.

๐ŸŽฏ Who Standtogether Is Looking For

  • Passionate about free-market economics, individual liberty, and FEE's mission to educate students on these principles.
  • Experienced in event planning or hackathon organization, with strong logistical and problem-solving skills.
  • Creative and innovative, able to design engaging, fun, and educational activities for diverse age groups (11-26).
  • Self-motivated and adaptable, comfortable working remotely and collaborating with a team across time zones.

๐Ÿ“ Tips for Applying to Standtogether

1

Highlight any experience you have with event planning, especially hackathons or educational competitions, and tie it to FEE's mission.

2

Demonstrate your knowledge of FEE's programs and audience by referencing specific FEE initiatives or events in your application.

3

Show your creativity by proposing a rough idea for a hackathon theme or activity that aligns with FEE's principles.

4

Emphasize your ability to work independently and manage logistics remotely, as this is a remote position.

5

Connect your personal story or motivations to FEE's valuesโ€”show why you care about economic freedom and student education.

โœ‰๏ธ What to Emphasize in Your Cover Letter

["Your passion for FEE's mission and how it aligns with your personal or academic background.", 'Specific examples of your event planning or hackathon experience, including any measurable outcomes.', 'Your creative approach to designing educational experiences for young people.', 'Your ability to handle logistics and work remotely while staying organized and proactive.']
