How to Apply for KIP Spring 2027 - Events Intern - R Street Institute

at Standtogether

🏢 About Standtogether

The R Street Institute is a nonprofit, nonpartisan public policy research organization with a mission to promote free markets and limited, effective government. As part of Stand Together's KIP fellowship, this internship offers a unique opportunity to work at the intersection of policy and communications, gaining hands-on experience in event planning and execution. Working at R Street means joining a dynamic team that values innovation, collaboration, and practical solutions to policy challenges.

About This Role

The Events Intern will support both in-person and virtual events, assist with data management, and collaborate with policy and government affairs teams to promote events. This role is integral to R Street's communications efforts, ensuring events run smoothly and effectively engage audiences. It offers a blend of logistical planning, creative problem-solving, and cross-functional teamwork, making it ideal for someone interested in event management within a policy context.

💡 A Day in the Life

A typical day might involve coordinating logistics for an upcoming in-person event, such as confirming catering and AV needs, updating the event registration list in the database, and drafting a promotional email to invite attendees. You might also attend a virtual event to provide technical support and then meet with the communications team to debrief and suggest improvements. The role blends independent tasks with collaborative meetings, all aimed at ensuring events run smoothly and engage the right audiences.

  • Highly organized and detail-oriented, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, comfortable interacting with staff, contractors, and event participants.
  • Interest in public policy and communications, with a desire to learn about event planning and data management.
  • Collaborative team player who can also work independently in a hybrid setting, with a proactive approach to problem-solving.
