How to Apply for EDR Engineer / Senior EDR Engineer

at Recordedfuture

🏢 About Recordedfuture

Recorded Future is the world's largest intelligence company, with over 1,000 intelligence professionals serving 1,900+ clients globally. Unlike traditional security vendors, they combine threat intelligence with advanced analytics to help organizations anticipate and mitigate cyber threats. Working here means being at the forefront of intelligence-driven security, directly contributing to protecting clients from sophisticated attacks.

About This Role

As an EDR Engineer, you will be the technical backbone of the Incident Response team, managing multiple EDR platforms (CrowdStrike, SentinelOne, Microsoft Defender) to ensure endpoint telemetry integrity and detection efficacy. Your work directly translates threat intelligence into actionable endpoint rules, enhancing the organization's ability to detect and respond to incidents swiftly. This role is critical in maintaining a robust security posture across a diverse environment.

💡 A Day in the Life

A typical day might involve monitoring EDR console alerts, tuning detection policies to reduce false positives, and troubleshooting agent health issues across the fleet. You'll collaborate with the IR team on active incidents, translate threat intelligence into new detection rules, and occasionally provide after-hours support for urgent containment. You'll also work on cloud workload protection projects and stay updated on emerging threats to continuously improve security posture.

🎯 Who Recordedfuture Is Looking For

  • Hands-on experience managing multiple EDR platforms (CrowdStrike, SentinelOne, Microsoft Defender for Endpoint) in enterprise environments, including deployment, configuration, and troubleshooting.
  • Strong background in detection engineering: ability to develop and refine detection policies, create high-fidelity alerts, and minimize false positives.
  • Familiarity with cloud workload protection and securing endpoints across hybrid cloud environments (AWS, Azure, GCP).
  • Proven ability to work in incident response teams, with availability for occasional after-hours support for urgent containment and restoration.

📝 Tips for Applying to Recordedfuture

1

Highlight specific EDR platforms you've managed (CrowdStrike, SentinelOne, Microsoft Defender) and quantify your impact, such as reducing false positives by X% or improving detection rates.

2

Emphasize any experience translating threat intelligence into detection rules, as this is a key differentiator for Recorded Future given their intelligence focus.

3

Showcase your ability to work in a remote-first environment: mention prior remote roles and your proficiency with collaboration tools like Slack, Zoom, and ticketing systems.

4

Demonstrate familiarity with cloud workload protection (AWS, Azure, GCP) and how you've secured endpoints in cloud environments.

5

Tailor your resume to include keywords from the job description (e.g., 'EDR administration', 'fleet health', 'detection engineering') to pass ATS and show alignment.

✉️ What to Emphasize in Your Cover Letter

In your cover letter, emphasize: 1) Your hands-on experience with multiple EDR platforms and specific achievements in optimizing their performance. 2) Your ability to develop detection logic that leverages threat intelligence, aligning with Recorded Future's intelligence-driven approach. 3) Your experience in incident response and willingness to provide after-hours support when needed. 4) Your passion for staying ahead of emerging threats and contributing to a collaborative, remote security team.

🔍 Research Before Applying

To stand out, make sure you've researched:

  • → Explore Recorded Future's product suite, especially their Intelligence Cloud and how it integrates with endpoint security, to understand how EDR fits into their ecosystem.
  • → Read Recorded Future's blog and threat intelligence reports to familiarize yourself with their research focus and terminology (e.g., 'intelligence graph').
  • → Research recent incidents or campaigns that Recorded Future has reported on, and think about how EDR could have detected or mitigated them.
  • → Understand Recorded Future's company culture and values (e.g., collaboration, innovation) by checking their careers page, LinkedIn, and employee reviews.

💬 Prepare for These Interview Topics

Based on this role, you may be asked about:

1 How do you manage agent health across a large, diverse endpoint fleet? Describe a time you troubleshooted a widespread agent issue.
2 Walk us through your process for developing a new detection rule from a threat intelligence report. How do you ensure high fidelity and minimize false positives?
3 Compare and contrast the strengths and weaknesses of CrowdStrike, SentinelOne, and Microsoft Defender for Endpoint. How would you decide which to use in a given scenario?
4 Describe your experience with cloud workload protection. How do you secure endpoints in AWS, Azure, or GCP?
5 Tell us about a time you had to respond to an incident after-hours. How did you handle containment and restoration?
6 How do you stay current with the latest EDR features and threat landscape? Give an example of how you've applied new knowledge to improve security.

⚠️ Common Mistakes to Avoid

  • Avoid generic applications that don't mention specific EDR platforms or Recorded Future's intelligence-driven approach; tailor your materials to show you understand their unique value proposition.
  • Don't neglect to highlight your ability to work remotely and collaboratively; this role is remote, so demonstrate your remote work proficiency.
  • Avoid focusing only on certifications without practical experience; they want hands-on skills in EDR administration and detection engineering.
