Legal Counsel

• Own and build the Foundation's legal function — advising leadership across intellectual property, contracts, governance, employment, and compliance.
• Advise on open-source licensing, contributor agreements, and trademark protection for Home Assistant and the Foundation's other projects.
• Support the Foundation's defense against patent and other legal claims, coordinating with outside litigation counsel where needed.
• Draft, review, and negotiate commercial agreements — sponsorships, partnerships, vendor contracts, NDAs, and event agreements.

Your work ensures the Open Home Foundation remains legally sound and well-governed, protecting open-source projects that empower millions of users with privacy, choice, and sustainability in smart homes.

• At least 3-5 years of post-qualification legal experience, ideally combining in-house and private practice.
• A Swiss legal qualification and strong command of Swiss law.
• Experience with Swiss foundation (Stiftung) law and non-profit governance.
• Professional fluency in English and professional proficiency in German.

Full-time remote position with flexible schedule. Benefits include five weeks paid time off, fourteen days paid sick leave, parental leave, hardware budget, annual smart home budget, internet contribution, personal project time, and total compensation package targeting 75th percentile. Approximate yearly compensation: 120,000-140,000 CHF.
