How to Apply for Business Development Manager - Humanitarian Software
at Beaconsoftware
🏢 About Beaconsoftware
Humanitarian Software has spent 40 years building supply chain solutions specifically for humanitarian aid organizations, and their HELM platform now supports the distribution of over $5 billion in aid worldwide each year. This is a rare opportunity to sell software that directly enables NGOs and relief organizations to track donated goods from donor to field, replacing spreadsheets with a single operational record. Working here means your sales wins translate into more effective disaster relief and aid delivery.
About This Role
As a Business Development Manager, you will own the full sales cycle for net-new logos in the humanitarian aid and disaster relief nonprofit space—from prospecting and lead generation through discovery, demos with sales engineers, and closing. You'll report directly to the GM and be responsible for building a qualified pipeline, often engaging with program directors, supply chain leads, and finance teams at NGOs. This role is impactful because every new customer you bring on helps an organization deliver aid more transparently and efficiently.

🎯 Who Beaconsoftware Is Looking For
- Proven track record of closing net-new business in B2B software, ideally SaaS, with experience managing the full sales cycle from prospecting to close.
- Experience selling to or working with nonprofits, NGOs, or humanitarian organizations—or a strong demonstrated interest in the humanitarian sector.
- Comfortable with outbound prospecting and pipeline generation, including cold outreach, networking, and leveraging CRM tools to track activity.
- Excellent discovery and demo skills, able to collaborate with sales engineers and translate technical supply chain features into donor accountability and operational efficiency benefits.
📝 Tips for Applying to Beaconsoftware
Highlight any experience selling to nonprofits, NGOs, or mission-driven organizations—even if it's not in software—because this role requires understanding their unique procurement and budget cycles.
Use the term 'net-new logos' in your resume and cover letter to show you understand the focus is on new business, not account management.
Mention specific supply chain or logistics software you've sold or used, as HELM's value prop is replacing spreadsheets and disconnected systems.
Reference the $5 billion in aid distributed via HELM to demonstrate you've researched the company's scale and impact.
If you have experience with donor restrictions, gift-in-kind processing, or DSCSA compliance, call it out—these are niche terms that will signal domain fit.
✉️ What to Emphasize in Your Cover Letter
Emphasize your ability to build pipeline from scratch through outbound prospecting and your comfort with a full-cycle sales role. Connect your sales experience to the humanitarian sector by showing you understand the challenges NGOs face with supply chain visibility and donor reporting. Highlight any experience collaborating with sales engineers on technical demos. Finally, express genuine motivation to work for a company whose software directly enables aid distribution, not just profit.
