How to Apply for Inside Sales Rep - Residential

at WaterFurnace International

🏢 About WaterFurnace International

WaterFurnace International is a leader in geothermal HVAC systems, dedicated to revolutionizing energy use and protecting the environment. Working here means contributing to sustainable technology that reduces carbon footprints and offers long-term savings for homeowners.

About This Role

As an Inside Sales Rep for Residential, you'll drive sales growth by proactively supporting low-volume dealers through outbound calls and providing reactive support to dealers and Territory Managers. Your work directly impacts dealer success and the adoption of geothermal technology.

💡 A Day in the Life

Your day starts with reviewing dealer activity and prioritizing outbound calls to low-volume dealers. You spend a few hours making proactive sales calls, then shift to answering inbound inquiries from dealers and Territory Managers, assisting with software tools and product questions. You also coordinate with District Managers to recruit new dealers or promote existing ones, wrapping up by updating records in Excel and Outlook.

🎯 Who WaterFurnace International Is Looking For

  • Has at least 3 years of outbound telephone sales support experience with an established customer base, ideally in HVAC or related industries.
  • Possesses strong understanding of HVAC and geothermal technology, able to explain value propositions and assist with technical tools like Geo-Link Software.
  • Proficient in MS Outlook, MS Excel, and MS Word, with ability to manage customer data and track sales activities.
  • Demonstrates excellent written and verbal communication skills, with a professional and upbeat telephone demeanor to build relationships with dealers.

📝 Tips for Applying to WaterFurnace International

1

Highlight your experience with outbound sales calls and dealer support, not just general sales. Provide specific metrics or examples of driving sales growth.

2

Emphasize any knowledge of geothermal or renewable energy systems; take a free online course if needed to show initiative.

3

Tailor your resume to include proficiency in MS Office tools, especially Excel for data tracking and Outlook for communication.

4

In your cover letter, mention your familiarity with dealer networks and how you've successfully recruited or upgraded dealers in the past.

5

Since the role is remote, demonstrate your self-discipline and ability to work independently with examples of remote work success.

✉️ What to Emphasize in Your Cover Letter

🔍 Research Before Applying

To stand out, make sure you've researched:

  • Learn about WaterFurnace's product line, especially the 7 Series, 5 Series, and 3 Series geothermal heat pumps, and their key differentiators.
  • Understand the company's 'Ground Loop' technology and how it compares to traditional HVAC systems in efficiency and cost savings.
  • Read about WaterFurnace's sustainability initiatives and awards, such as their ENERGY STAR® certifications and environmental commitments.
  • Review the dealer support tools mentioned in the job description (Geo-Link Software, OneLink Portal) to understand their functionality.

💬 Prepare for These Interview Topics

Based on this role, you may be asked about:

1 Describe your experience with outbound sales calls to established customers; how do you maintain relationships while driving growth?
2 How would you explain the value of geothermal systems to a hesitant dealer? What key benefits would you highlight?
3 Walk us through how you would use Geo-Link or similar CRM tools to track dealer activity and identify opportunities.
4 Tell us about a time you recruited a new dealer or upgraded an existing one. What steps did you take?
5 How do you manage your time and prioritize tasks in a remote environment with both proactive and reactive responsibilities?

⚠️ Common Mistakes to Avoid

  • Don't focus solely on inbound sales or customer service; this role requires proactive outbound calling and dealer development.
  • Avoid generic statements about being a 'team player'; instead, provide specific examples of coordinating with Territory Managers or District Managers.
  • Don't neglect to mention your technical knowledge of HVAC/geothermal; even if you have sales experience, lack of technical understanding can be a dealbreaker.
