How to Apply for Industry Engagement Manager

at Greenlight America

🏢 About Greenlight America

Greenlight America is a mobilization hub that uniquely empowers local and state-based groups to champion clean energy projects in their communities. Unlike top-down organizations, we focus on building grassroots capacity and navigating local politics to accelerate the clean energy transition. Working here means being part of a nimble, mission-driven team that directly supports on-the-ground campaigners.

About This Role

As Industry Engagement Manager, you'll serve as the primary liaison between Greenlight's regional campaigns and utility-scale clean energy developers, ensuring smooth collaboration from project inception to completion. Your work directly impacts the success of local clean energy initiatives by bridging the gap between community advocates and industry professionals, making you a critical player in overcoming development barriers.

💡 A Day in the Life

Your day might start with a check-in call with a campaign lead in the Midwest to troubleshoot a developer's permitting delay. By midday, you're reviewing a new prospecting report for a potential solar project in Texas, then preparing talking points for a developer meeting. Afternoon includes a strategy brainstorm with the team on how to engage local officials in a contentious county in Ohio.

🎯 Who Greenlight America Is Looking For

  • Has at least 2 years of direct experience in utility-scale clean energy development (e.g., solar, wind), including familiarity with project timelines, permitting, and developer pain points.
  • Possesses a strong background in community or stakeholder engagement, with demonstrated ability to navigate diverse local perspectives and build trust with both activists and corporate partners.
  • Thrives in a fast-paced, remote environment, managing multiple campaigns simultaneously while maintaining attention to regulatory and cultural nuances across different regions.
  • Is a strategic problem-solver who can de-escalate tensions between developers and community groups, translating technical constraints into actionable campaign strategies.

📝 Tips for Applying to Greenlight America

1

Highlight specific examples of developer relationship management, especially where you mediated between community concerns and project needs.

2

Showcase your understanding of the social and political dynamics in at least two different US regions (e.g., Midwest vs. Southwest) in your cover letter.

3

Mention any experience with local grassroots groups or environmental justice organizations to demonstrate alignment with Greenlight's mission.

4

Quantify your impact in previous roles, such as number of MW of clean energy projects supported or percentage of community agreements reached.

5

Tailor your resume to emphasize project management across multiple stakeholders, using terms like 'campaign lifecycle' or 'stakeholder mapping.'

✉️ What to Emphasize in Your Cover Letter

['Express passion for accelerating the clean energy transition through community-centered approaches, not just top-down development.', 'Detail your experience in navigating regulatory and political landscapes that affect clean energy projects, citing specific examples.', 'Illustrate your ability to build trust with both developers and local advocates, emphasizing a collaborative rather than adversarial style.', "Explain why you're drawn to Greenlight's unique model of supporting local groups rather than driving projects from the outside."]
