How to Apply for Founding Account Executive

at Neutreeno

🏢 About Neutreeno

Neutreeno is a deep tech spinout from the University of Cambridge's Engineering Department, developing an intelligent decarbonisation software. The company is at the forefront of tackling climate change by helping enterprises measure and reduce their carbon footprint, offering a mission-driven environment with cutting-edge technology. Working here means contributing to a meaningful cause while being part of a fast-growing startup with strong academic roots.

About This Role

As the Founding Account Executive, you will lead the entire sales process from prospect qualification to deal closure, working directly alongside the founder and commercial team. This role is pivotal in establishing the sales function and driving revenue growth, making a direct impact on the company's success and scaling efforts. You'll be responsible for building relationships with enterprise clients and owning the sales pipeline from end to end.

💡 A Day in the Life

A typical day might start with reviewing pipeline metrics and prioritising outreach to new enterprise prospects. You'll have calls with C-level executives and Heads of Sustainability, demonstrating Neutreeno's software and handling technical questions. Afternoons involve internal syncs with the founder on deal strategy, updating CRM, and preparing proposals or negotiations for active deals.

🎯 Who Neutreeno Is Looking For

  • Proven track record of closing complex, technical enterprise deals, ideally in SaaS or climate tech, with 4+ years of B2B sales experience and consistent quota attainment.
  • Comfortable selling to C-level executives, Heads of Sustainability, and Procurement, with the ability to articulate technical decarbonisation concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Highly autonomous and entrepreneurial, able to build sales processes from scratch and work closely with the founder in a fast-paced startup environment.
  • Proficient in CRM tools (e.g., Salesforce, HubSpot) and sales methodologies like MEDDPICC, with strong forecasting and pipeline management skills.

📝 Tips for Applying to Neutreeno

1

Highlight specific examples of complex enterprise deals you've closed, including deal size, length of sales cycle, and how you navigated technical objections.

2

Show your understanding of the sustainability and decarbonisation landscape by mentioning relevant trends, regulations (e.g., CSRD), or competitors in your cover letter.

3

Demonstrate your ability to work in a startup by detailing experiences where you built sales processes, contributed to product feedback, or wore multiple hats.

4

Tailor your resume to emphasize B2B enterprise sales experience, especially with technical products or solutions, and quantify your achievements (e.g., % of quota achieved).

5

Mention any experience with MEDDPICC or similar sales methodologies, as it's explicitly referenced in the job requirements.

✉️ What to Emphasize in Your Cover Letter

["Your passion for climate tech and alignment with Neutreeno's mission to decarbonise enterprises.", 'Specific examples of closing complex, technical deals and managing enterprise sales cycles.', 'Your entrepreneurial mindset and experience working in early-stage startups or building sales functions.', "How your skills in relationship-building with C-level executives and cross-functional teams will drive Neutreeno's growth."]

  • Review case studies or testimonials from Neutreeno's existing clients (if available) to understand their value proposition.

💬 Prepare for These Interview Topics

Based on this role, you may be asked about:

1 Walk me through a complex enterprise deal you closed from prospecting to negotiation, including how you handled technical objections.
2 How would you approach building a sales pipeline from scratch at a startup like Neutreeno?
3 Describe your experience with MEDDPICC or similar frameworks; how do you use them to forecast accurately?

⚠️ Common Mistakes to Avoid

  • Failing to tailor your application to climate tech or assuming generic SaaS sales experience is sufficient without demonstrating domain interest.
  • Overemphasizing inbound sales experience without showing ability to prospect and build pipeline from scratch, which is critical for a founding role.
  • Neglecting to quantify your achievements or provide concrete examples of closing deals, especially in a technical or enterprise context.
