How to Apply for FINANCE AND ACCOUNTING MANAGER
at Envision Consulting
🏢 About Envision Consulting
Prosperity Now is a national nonprofit dedicated to strengthening financial security for low- and moderate-income communities through research, practical tools, and cross-sector partnerships. Unlike many nonprofits, they focus on systems-level change—incubating, activating, and elevating solutions that address root causes of economic barriers. Working here means contributing to mission-driven work while operating with the financial rigor of a high-performing organization.
About This Role
As the Finance and Accounting Manager, you’ll own the day-to-day accounting operations—month-end/year-end close, general ledger, AP/AR, reconciliations—while ensuring compliance with grant and contract requirements. You’ll partner closely with the CFO and cross-functional teams to support budgeting, forecasting, and restricted grant accounting. This is a hands-on role where your accuracy and insights directly enable Prosperity Now’s programs to scale and stay compliant.
💡 A Day in the Life
You might start your day reviewing cash balances and approving accounts payable batches, then meet with the CFO to discuss the month-end close timeline and any grant compliance issues. Later, you’ll reconcile balance sheet accounts, prepare financial reports for a funder, and collaborate with a program manager on a new grant budget. Expect a mix of routine tasks and cross-functional problem-solving in a fast-paced, mission-driven environment.
🚀 Application Tools
🎯 Who Envision Consulting Is Looking For
- 5+ years of progressive accounting experience, ideally in a nonprofit or grant-funded environment, with a strong grasp of GAAP and restricted fund accounting.
- Hands-on expertise in month-end/year-end close, general ledger management, AP/AR, and account reconciliations—comfortable in the details while seeing the big picture.
- Experience with grant and contract financial management, including cost allocations, compliance, and reporting to funders.
- Proficiency with accounting software (e.g., Sage Intacct, NetSuite, QuickBooks) and advanced Excel skills; strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- A collaborative mindset and excellent communication skills—able to work effectively with program and development staff and explain financial concepts to non-finance colleagues.
📝 Tips for Applying to Envision Consulting
Highlight specific experience with restricted grant accounting and cost allocations—this is a key differentiator for this role.
Quantify your impact in previous roles: e.g., 'managed $X million in grants,' 'reduced close time by X days,' or 'improved compliance with X funder requirements.'
Research Prosperity Now’s funding sources (e.g., foundations, government grants) and mention how your grant management experience aligns with their mix.
Tailor your resume to emphasize month-end/year-end close, general ledger, AP/AR, and reconciliations—use the same terminology as the job description.
If you have nonprofit experience, highlight it prominently; if not, explain how your for-profit skills translate to a mission-driven, grant-funded environment.
✉️ What to Emphasize in Your Cover Letter
