How to Apply for Director of Accounting
at The CANOE Collective
🏢 About The CANOE Collective
The CANOE Collective is a mission-driven collective of ops pros dedicated to helping small nonprofits build equitable, inclusive systems. If you value purpose over profit and want to use your accounting expertise to strengthen social impact organizations, this is a unique opportunity to work remotely with a values-aligned team.
About This Role
As Director of Accounting, you'll provide hands-on CFO/accounting support to 5-7 nonprofit partners, supervise a team of bookkeepers, and help scale a high-quality, values-driven accounting practice. Your work directly enables small nonprofits to grow sustainably and focus on their missions.
💡 A Day in the Life
A typical day might start with reviewing the prior day's transactions for a few nonprofit partners, then meeting with a part-time bookkeeper to review reconciliations. After lunch, you'd prepare a budget variance report for one partner and join a strategy call with CANOE leadership to discuss scaling the accounting practice. You'd wrap up by filing a 990 extension for another client.
