Director of Accounting

• Provide direct accounting and/or CFO-level support for 5-7 small nonprofit partners, including maintaining accurate financial records, preparing reports, budgets, and ensuring compliance.
• Supervise part-time bookkeepers and manage CANOE's accounting services, including developing and scaling a high-quality, values-driven accounting practice.
• Collaborate with CANOE leadership to strengthen financial systems, improve decision-making, and prepare partners for long-term growth.

This role directly supports small nonprofits fighting racism, poverty, and climate change by strengthening their financial infrastructure, enabling them to focus on their mission and create lasting positive change.

• At least 7 years of nonprofit accounting experience, including filing 990s, 1099s, and state tax filings.
• At least 3 years of experience leading a team and supporting professional growth.
• CPA, CMA, or experienced senior accountant/CFO-level consultant.
• Highly proficient in QuickBooks Online for nonprofit accounting and accounts payable platforms like Ramp.com.

Full-time, virtual position based anywhere in the United States. Salary range: $115,898 to $131,181.
