How to Apply for Director, Inclusive Entrepreneurship
at Candide Group
🏢 About Candide Group
Candide Group is an impact-focused Registered Investment Advisor that has been deploying capital for economic justice since 2013, organizing its work around four dynamic verticals: Home and Place, Employee Ownership, Climate Justice, and Inclusive Entrepreneurship. Unlike traditional asset managers, Candide co-creates priorities with affected communities and uses an intersectional lens to repair harms caused by extractive finance. This is a rare chance to shape a newly formalized vertical and drive capital to entrepreneurs historically excluded from mainstream funding.
About This Role
As Director of Inclusive Entrepreneurship, you will lead Candide’s strategy to deploy capital that expands opportunity, strengthens local businesses, and builds generational wealth for communities of color and other excluded groups. You will be responsible for sourcing, due diligence, and investment management across funds and direct deals, while also serving as an internal and external thought leader on equitable finance. Your work will directly influence how millions of dollars flow to underinvested entrepreneurs and communities.
💡 A Day in the Life
A typical day might involve reviewing a pipeline of prospective investments in small business loan funds or venture deals led by entrepreneurs of color, conducting a due diligence call with a fund manager, and then joining a cross-vertical team meeting to align on shared impact metrics. You might also spend time mentoring a portfolio company on accessing follow-on capital or drafting a memo for Candide’s investment committee. The pace is entrepreneurial, so you will often toggle between deep analytical work and relationship-building with community partners.

🎯 Who Candide Group Is Looking For
- Has at least 7–10 years of experience as a capital allocator—ideally at a foundation, RIA, fund of funds, or impact-oriented venture/PE/small business loan fund—with a track record of conducting rigorous due diligence and managing an investment portfolio.
- Demonstrates deep fluency in racial and economic justice, with lived or professional experience advancing equity through policy, philanthropy, or community finance.
- Is a strategic builder who can operate in a remote, entrepreneurial environment and is comfortable designing processes from scratch while staying responsive to emergent community needs.
- Possesses strong relationship management skills and can engage both institutional investors and grassroots entrepreneurs with cultural humility and clarity.
📝 Tips for Applying to Candide Group
Highlight specific deals or portfolio companies you have sourced, diligenced, or managed that directly supported entrepreneurs of color or low-income communities—quantify the impact where possible.
Use your cover letter to articulate how you would operationalize Candide’s four verticals, especially Inclusive Entrepreneurship, and how you would collaborate with the other three verticals.
Demonstrate familiarity with Candide’s 2024 shift to verticals and mention how you would balance structured strategy with openness to emergent opportunities.
If you have experience in both investing and justice work, explicitly connect the two—show how your investment decisions were informed by community engagement or policy change.
Because the role is remote, provide examples of how you have successfully managed remote investment processes, due diligence, and team collaboration across geographies.
✉️ What to Emphasize in Your Cover Letter
['Your personal or professional connection to inclusive entrepreneurship and why capital as a tool for economic justice matters to you.', 'A concrete example of a due diligence process you led that resulted in a successful investment in an underrepresented entrepreneur or community fund.', 'How you would build the Inclusive Entrepreneurship vertical from its current early stage, including your first 90-day priorities.', 'Your approach to working across Candide’s other verticals—Home and Place, Employee Ownership, Climate Justice—to create intersectional impact.']

💬 Prepare for These Interview Topics
Based on this role, you may be asked about:
⚠️ Common Mistakes to Avoid
- Focusing only on financial returns without demonstrating a genuine commitment to racial and economic justice—Candide will screen for values alignment.
- Using generic language about 'impact' without citing specific examples of how you have advanced equity through investment decisions or policy work.
- Neglecting to mention how you would work across verticals—Candide is explicitly intersectional, so siloed thinking is a red flag.
- Applying with a traditional asset management mindset that ignores community engagement and emergent strategy—Candide values co-creation with affected communities.
