🏢 About PARKINSON & MOVEMENT DISORDER ALLIANCE
The Parkinson & Movement Disorder Alliance (PMD Alliance) is a national nonprofit dedicated to providing people with Parkinson's and other movement disorders—along with their care partners—access to life-changing education, connection, and support. What makes PMD Alliance unique is its fast-paced, nimble culture where every team member is both an individual contributor and an integrated team player, committed to a set of core values that are intentionally placed above specific duties. Working here means directly influencing how the organization scales its impact, ensuring the greatest good for the largest number of people in a transformational way.
About This Role
The Development Specialist is a remote, full-time role that supports PMD Alliance's fundraising, development, and revenue operations. You'll manage sponsorships, peer-to-peer fundraising, donor communications, e-marketing, revenue tracking, charitable registrations, grant development, and development administration—all while maintaining accurate data and coordinating compliance. This position is impactful because it directly fuels the organization's ability to expand programs and reach more people affected by movement disorders, and it offers the chance to improve systems and data integrity in a mission-driven environment.
💡 A Day in the Life
A typical day might involve updating the donor database with recent gifts, coordinating with a vendor on a peer-to-peer fundraising platform, drafting an e-blast for an upcoming campaign, and preparing a sponsorship report for the Director of Development. You'll also attend team check-ins, troubleshoot data discrepancies, and ensure all charitable registrations are current—all while staying nimble to address emerging priorities in a fast-paced remote environment.

📝 Tips for Applying to PARKINSON & MOVEMENT DISORDER ALLIANCE
Highlight any direct experience with peer-to-peer fundraising platforms (e.g., Classy, Givebutter, Facebook Fundraisers) and sponsorship fulfillment—these are core to the role and will set you apart.
Quantify your data management wins: mention specific examples of improving data integrity, streamlining revenue tracking, or increasing donor retention through better processes.
Show familiarity with charitable registration and compliance requirements (e.g., state charitable solicitation registrations) if you have it; otherwise, express eagerness to learn and mention any related compliance or reporting experience.
Tailor your resume and cover letter to emphasize remote work success—PMD Alliance is fully remote, so demonstrate your ability to stay nimble, communicate proactively, and manage projects independently.
Research PMD Alliance's programs and recent campaigns (e.g., their signature events or peer-to-peer initiatives) and reference them in your application to show genuine interest and alignment with their mission.
✉️ What to Emphasize in Your Cover Letter

💬 Prepare for These Interview Topics
Based on this role, you may be asked about:
⚠️ Common Mistakes to Avoid
- Avoid submitting a generic cover letter that doesn't mention PMD Alliance or the movement disorder community—this role requires genuine passion for the mission, and a lack of customization signals disinterest.
- Don't downplay your data management skills; this role heavily emphasizes accurate revenue tracking and data integrity, so failing to highlight relevant experience will hurt your candidacy.
- Avoid implying that remote work means less collaboration—PMD Alliance values integrated teamwork, so emphasizing independence without mentioning your ability to communicate and coordinate with a remote team is a mistake.
