How to Apply for Data Commercialisation Lead

at Fuse Energy

🏢 About Fuse Energy

Fuse Energy is accelerating the global transition to renewable energy with comprehensive solutions spanning energy supply and robotics. As a remote-first company, it offers the agility and impact of a startup with a mission-driven focus on sustainability. This is a unique opportunity to shape the commercial data strategy at a company at the forefront of the energy transition.

About This Role

As Data Commercialisation Lead, you will build and scale Fuse Energy's commercial data business from scratch, owning the full sales lifecycle for proprietary datasets. Your work will directly enable hedge funds, asset managers, and institutional investors to make better decisions, driving revenue and impact in the renewable energy sector.

💡 A Day in the Life

A typical day might involve meeting with a potential hedge fund client to pitch a new data product, then working with the data engineering team to refine a dataset's features based on customer feedback. You'll spend time analyzing market trends to adjust pricing models and preparing a sales deck for an upcoming conference.

🎯 Who Fuse Energy Is Looking For

  • Proven track record in commercializing proprietary data, analytics, or AI products for institutional investors or enterprise clients, with a hunter mentality for new business.
  • Strong commercial instincts with experience building new markets, products, or sales functions from the ground up, ideally in a startup or scale-up environment.
  • Technical aptitude to understand complex datasets across energy, infrastructure, robotics, or AI, and translate them into compelling value propositions.
  • Excellent communication and relationship-building skills, with comfort operating independently in a fast-moving, remote-first culture.

📝 Tips for Applying to Fuse Energy

1

Tailor your resume to highlight specific examples of commercializing data products, including revenue generated and customer acquisition metrics.

2

In your cover letter, explicitly connect your experience with the energy sector or related technical domains (robotics, AI) to show domain relevance.

3

Demonstrate your startup mindset by mentioning any experience building sales functions or go-to-market strategies from scratch.

4

Showcase your ability to work independently by including examples of remote work or self-directed projects.

5

Prepare a brief pitch for how you would approach selling Fuse Energy's data to hedge funds or asset managers, and include it in your application if possible.

✉️ What to Emphasize in Your Cover Letter

['Emphasize your experience commercializing proprietary data and winning first customers in institutional markets.', 'Highlight your ability to work cross-functionally across technical and commercial teams to refine product strategy and pricing.', "Show passion for renewable energy and the mission of accelerating the global transition, aligning with Fuse Energy's purpose.", 'Mention comfort with ambiguity and building from scratch, as this role is greenfield.']

💬 Prepare for These Interview Topics

Based on this role, you may be asked about:

1 Walk me through how you would build a go-to-market strategy for a new data product targeting hedge funds.
2 Describe a time you convinced a skeptical customer to buy a new data product. What was your approach?
3 How would you price a proprietary dataset? What factors would you consider?
4 Tell me about a complex dataset you commercialized. How did you make it understandable for non-technical buyers?
5 How do you prioritize which customer segments to target first when launching a new data business?

⚠️ Common Mistakes to Avoid

  • Don't be generic: avoid listing general sales experience without specific data commercialization examples.
  • Don't neglect the technical aspect: failing to demonstrate understanding of complex datasets (energy, robotics, AI) will hurt your candidacy.
  • Don't underestimate the independence required: this role is remote and greenfield, so emphasize self-direction and comfort with ambiguity.
