How to Apply for Cluster Director – South America | Plan International
at Consultoría Aplicada
🏢 About Consultoría Aplicada
Plan International is an independent development and humanitarian organization that has advanced children's rights and equality for girls for over 85 years, operating in more than 80 countries. What makes it unique is its dual development and humanitarian mandate and its unwavering commitment to gender-transformative programming, meaning you'd be part of a global movement that tackles root causes of poverty, violence, exclusion, and discrimination. Working here offers the chance to lead strategic change across South America while directly contributing to a world where girls and young people can thrive.
About This Role
As Cluster Director for South America, you will provide senior strategic leadership across Plan International's operations in Ecuador, Paraguay, and Peru, ensuring Country Representatives are empowered to deliver impactful, efficient, and gender-transformative programmes. This is not a technical programme management role—it's about aligning strategy, resources, people, risk, and operating capacity across the cluster while strengthening the dual development and humanitarian mandate. You'll be accountable for organizational performance in areas including Finance, People and Culture, Business Development, Security, and Communications, making this a pivotal role in shaping Plan's presence and impact in the region.
💡 A Day in the Life
A typical day might involve a strategic check-in with a Country Representative on programme delivery and risk management, followed by a finance review meeting to ensure budget alignment and compliance. You could then engage with a donor or partner on a new funding opportunity, and later provide guidance on a humanitarian response in one of the countries, all while mentoring team members and ensuring that gender equality remains at the center of every decision.

📝 Tips for Applying to Consultoría Aplicada
Tailor your CV to emphasize senior leadership achievements in multi-country contexts—highlight specific examples of how you've supported Country Representatives or led organizational performance across programmes, finance, and operations.
Explicitly address the dual development and humanitarian mandate in your cover letter, giving examples of how you've balanced both in previous roles, as this is central to Plan's work.
Demonstrate your commitment to gender equality and children's rights by referencing concrete initiatives you've led or contributed to, not just general statements of support.
Since the role is based in Ecuador, Paraguay, or Peru, mention any experience working in or with these countries or the broader South America region, and confirm your eligibility to work there if applicable.
Research Plan International's current strategy (e.g., '100 Million Reasons' or relevant regional strategies) and reference it in your application to show you understand their priorities and can align your leadership with them.
✉️ What to Emphasize in Your Cover Letter
