How to Apply for Clinical Monitor

at Equip for Equality

🏢 About Equip for Equality

Equip for Equality is a leading disability rights organization and the federally designated Protection and Advocacy agency for Illinois, providing legal advocacy and systemic reform for people with disabilities. Working here means joining a mission-driven team that combines legal expertise with clinical insight to protect civil rights and improve care. The flexible remote policy and focus on community integration make it an attractive place for clinicians seeking meaningful impact.

About This Role

As a Clinical Monitor, you will conduct on-site monitoring of facilities and community programs to ensure safety, quality of care, and successful community transitions for individuals with developmental/intellectual disabilities and/or mental illness. You will analyze findings, write reports with systemic recommendations, and collaborate with a team of monitors and attorneys. This role directly influences policy and practice, making it ideal for clinicians who want to advocate for civil rights.

💡 A Day in the Life

A typical day might involve traveling to a community facility to observe conditions, interview staff and residents, and review records. Later, you’d analyze findings, draft a report with recommendations, and collaborate with the monitoring team to strategize systemic improvements. Some days may be spent in virtual meetings or preparing for upcoming site visits.

🎯 Who Equip for Equality Is Looking For

  • Holds a bachelor's or master's in social work, counseling, or a related field, and has LSW/LCSW, LCPC, QIDP, or RN licensure.
  • Brings at least 5 years of hands-on experience supporting people with developmental/intellectual disabilities, ideally in clinical, monitoring, or investigative roles.
  • Demonstrates a strong commitment to disability civil rights and community integration, with knowledge of relevant laws (e.g., ADA, Olmstead).
  • Possesses excellent written and oral communication skills, including experience writing detailed reports and recommendations.
  • Is willing to travel locally and overnight in Northern Illinois and holds a valid driver’s license.
