How to Apply for CAD Manager

at Revamp Engineering

๐Ÿข About Revamp Engineering

Revamp Engineering is an employee-owned company dedicated to accelerating the clean energy transition through utility-scale solar, BESS, and substation projects. As an ESOP, every employee shares in the company's success, making it a place where your work directly impacts the planet and your own financial future.

About This Role

As the CAD Manager, you will be the guardian of drafting quality and standards across all projects, ensuring consistency and efficiency in AutoCAD and Civil 3D. You'll lead training, implement automation, and directly enable engineers to deliver high-quality drawings faster, playing a crucial role in scaling renewable energy infrastructure.

๐Ÿ’ก A Day in the Life

A typical day might involve reviewing drawing sets from various projects to ensure they meet company standards, updating template libraries based on feedback from engineering teams, and leading a training session on a new CAD automation script. You'll also collaborate with discipline leads to identify drafting bottlenecks and with the automation team to develop tools that streamline workflows, all while mentoring junior drafters to elevate their skills.

๐Ÿ” Research Before Applying

To stand out, make sure you've researched:

  • โ†’ Research Revamp Engineering's portfolio of renewable energy projects, especially any utility-scale solar or BESS projects, to understand their technical focus.
  • โ†’ Learn about their ESOP culture and how employee ownership might influence daily work and long-term incentives.
  • โ†’ Check if they mention any specific software tools or automation platforms on their website or job postings, to align your skills.
  • โ†’ Look for any recent news or press releases about Revamp's projects or growth, to demonstrate your interest in the interview.

๐Ÿ’ฌ Prepare for These Interview Topics

Based on this role, you may be asked about:

1 How would you approach standardizing CAD practices across multiple engineering disciplines (civil, electrical, structural)?
2 Describe a time you implemented a new CAD standard or automation tool. What was the impact on project delivery?
3 How do you ensure QA/QC on drawings when managing multiple projects with tight deadlines?
4 What experience do you have with Civil 3D for solar or substation design? Can you give an example?
5 How would you handle resistance from senior engineers when introducing new CAD standards or workflows?

โš ๏ธ Common Mistakes to Avoid

  • Avoid being too genericโ€”don't just say you 'know AutoCAD.' Provide concrete examples of standards you've created or improved.
  • Don't underestimate the importance of soft skills; this role requires mentoring and collaboration, so highlight your communication and leadership abilities.
  • Don't neglect to mention your experience with QA/QC processes, as this is a core responsibility and often overlooked by candidates.
