How to Apply for Business Applications Engineer, Workday

at Redwood Materials

🏢 About Redwood Materials

Redwood Materials is pioneering a closed-loop, domestic lithium-ion battery supply chain by recycling batteries to recover critical materials, reducing environmental impact and supporting the clean energy transition. Working here means contributing to a mission-driven company at the forefront of sustainability and circular economy.

About This Role

As the Business Applications Engineer for Workday, you'll own the day-to-day administration, integrations, and release management for the entire Workday ecosystem. Your work directly enables HR, Payroll, and IT to operate efficiently, supporting Redwood's rapid growth and sustainability goals.

💡 A Day in the Life

Start your day reviewing Workday support tickets and resolving end-user issues. Mid-morning, you might work on an EIB load for a new benefits configuration or troubleshoot an integration with Greenhouse. Afternoons often involve meetings with HR and IT to gather requirements for upcoming releases, followed by configuring business processes or testing release features.

🎯 Who Redwood Materials Is Looking For

  • 5-8 years of hands-on Workday administration in a live tenant, with deep expertise in Core HCM and at least two additional modules (e.g., Benefits, Compensation, Recruiting).
  • Proven experience with EIBs, Report Writer, Calculated Fields, Business Process Framework, and security administration; Workday Studio experience is strongly preferred.
  • Comfortable leading biannual release management, including regression testing and stakeholder communication.
  • Ability to translate complex stakeholder needs into technical solutions, with a collaborative mindset to work across HR, Payroll, and IT.

📝 Tips for Applying to Redwood Materials

1

Highlight your experience with Workday Studio and integrations (e.g., Greenhouse, GL) explicitly in your resume and cover letter.

2

Mention any experience with release management and regression testing, as this is a key responsibility.

3

Showcase your ability to gather requirements and prioritize optimizations, using specific examples from past roles.

4

Tailor your application to emphasize sustainability and circular economy—connect your Workday skills to enabling Redwood's mission.

5

Include metrics or outcomes from your Workday administration (e.g., reduced support tickets, improved process efficiency).

✉️ What to Emphasize in Your Cover Letter
