BLACK RURAL ORGANIZER–IN-TRAINING

• Conduct community engagement and outreach in Black rural frontline communities, including door-knocking, flyering, and one-on-one relational meetings.
• Support community visioning and planning sessions to identify needs and develop leadership skills among volunteers and emerging leaders.
• Help plan and facilitate community events, town halls, and campaign actions to build collective power.
• Complete data entry, outreach documentation, and maintain community databases.

This role directly supports Black frontline communities in building power, self-determination, and resilience against climate injustice, advancing a Just Transition framework that centers equity and community-led solutions.

• Recent college or high school graduate with passion for climate justice and community organizing.
• Strong commitment to environmental, social, and economic justice.
• Excellent people skills and ability to communicate clearly in writing and verbally.
• Comfortable with travel (up to 50%) and working independently as well as collaboratively.

Annual salary of $50,000 (non-exempt, eligible for overtime). Full-time (40 hours/week) fixed-term apprenticeship from June 2026 to May 2027. Eligible for TCLP benefits. Standard work equipment provided (laptop and charger). Ongoing feedback and formal evaluations. Upon successful completion, may be considered for a full-time Community Organizer position.

The Chisholm Legacy Project is a resource hub for Black frontline climate justice leadership, rooted in the Just Transition Framework. It connects Black communities with resources to advance systems change from extractivism to a living economy that cares for sacred relationships between people and Mother Earth.
