How to Apply for Associate Major Gifts Officer

at Galvanize USA

🏢 About Galvanize USA

Galvanize USA is a nonpartisan civic empowerment program dedicated to helping women gain the confidence, knowledge, and skills to engage in civic life. As a project of the Hopewell Fund, a 501(c)(3) public charity, it offers a mission-driven environment where your work directly contributes to increasing women's participation in democracy. Joining Galvanize means being part of a collaborative, impact-focused team that values innovation and inclusivity.

About This Role

As the Associate Major Gifts Officer, you will manage a portfolio of mid-level donors and emerging major donor prospects, building relationships that deepen their investment in Galvanize's mission. You'll also own the one-to-many fundraising program for annual fund donors, using digital outreach and virtual events to cultivate a broad base of support. This role is pivotal in diversifying and growing Galvanize's funding, ensuring sustainable resources for civic empowerment programs.

💡 A Day in the Life

A typical day might involve reviewing your portfolio of donors, making personalized calls or sending tailored emails to cultivate relationships, and updating every interaction in EveryAction. You might also spend time crafting a digital appeal for an upcoming virtual event, collaborating with the communications team to ensure messaging aligns, and analyzing data to identify engagement trends. Later, you could participate in a virtual coffee with a donor or a team meeting to strategize on upcoming fundraising initiatives.

🎯 Who Galvanize USA Is Looking For

  • A seasoned fundraiser with 3+ years of experience, specifically in direct portfolio management and relationship building, able to demonstrate a track record of moving donors up the giving ladder.
  • Tech-savvy and detail-oriented, with proficiency in EveryAction or similar CRMs, and a strong discipline for meticulous documentation and data tracking.
  • An excellent writer and communicator, capable of crafting compelling appeals and personalized stewardship messages that resonate with women donors.
  • A relational, empathetic professional who thrives on building authentic connections and can manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, values-driven environment.
  • Understanding of the nuances between c3 and c4 entities, with the ability to maintain compliance in all fundraising communications.

⚠️ Common Mistakes to Avoid

  • Avoid being generic: Don't send a one-size-fits-all cover letter. Tailor your application to show you've done your research on Galvanize's mission and programs.
  • Don't overlook the c3/c4 compliance aspect: Failing to demonstrate awareness of this legal nuance could signal you're not detail-oriented enough for the role.
  • Don't underestimate the importance of one-to-many fundraising: If you only highlight major gift experience without digital outreach, you may appear not to fit the role's requirements.
