How to Apply for Assistant Director, Technology Delivery

at Partners for Public Good

🏢 About Partners for Public Good

Partners for Public Good (PPG) is a brand-new nonprofit launched in March 2025, uniquely focused on helping state and local governments improve core operational functions—procurement, staffing, digital infrastructure, and budgeting—to drive public impact. Working with hundreds of governments, PPG aims to make systems more efficient, fair, and results-driven, offering a mission-driven environment where your work directly strengthens public sector capacity.

About This Role

As Assistant Director, Technology Delivery, you will lead and scale PPG’s Technology Delivery portfolio, overseeing hands-on support projects for government technology needs like AI adoption, software implementations, and IT strategic planning. This role is pivotal in shaping technical assistance offerings, tracking outcomes, and building government capacity, while also engaging with government leaders and philanthropy to pitch projects and cultivate new opportunities.

💡 A Day in the Life

Your day might start with a stand-up meeting with your remote team via Slack to review project milestones for ongoing technology pilots. Mid-morning, you could jump on a call with a county IT director to discuss their AI adoption needs, followed by an afternoon session reviewing a proposal for a new software implementation project. You’d also carve out time to analyze project outcomes and update the portfolio’s impact tracker.

🎯 Who Partners for Public Good Is Looking For

  • Seven+ years of relevant experience, with direct experience in state/local government, consulting, or private sector teams supporting government technology initiatives.
  • At least two years of direct people management experience, including leading cross-functional or remote teams.
  • Proficient in collaborative remote work tools (Teams/Slack, Miro/Figma, Asana/Monday) and AI tools like Claude/ChatGPT.
  • Expert IT project management skills with a track record of successful public sector technology implementations, including agile methodologies and vendor management.

📝 Tips for Applying to Partners for Public Good

1

Tailor your resume to highlight specific government technology projects you’ve led or supported, emphasizing outcomes like improved efficiency or fairness.

2

In your cover letter, explicitly connect your experience with state/local government operations (procurement, staffing, digital infrastructure) to PPG’s mission.

3

Showcase your familiarity with AI adoption in government—mention specific tools or pilots you’ve worked on and how they impacted public services.

4

Demonstrate your ability to manage remote teams by citing examples of using tools like Asana, Slack, and Miro to coordinate projects across locations.

5

Prepare a one-page summary of a past technology implementation project, focusing on challenges, stakeholder engagement, and measurable results, to attach as a supplement.

⚠️ Common Mistakes to Avoid

  • Submitting a generic cover letter that doesn’t mention government technology or PPG’s specific mission—this shows lack of genuine interest.
  • Overemphasizing private sector experience without drawing clear parallels to public sector challenges (e.g., budget constraints, stakeholder complexity).
  • Failing to demonstrate proficiency with remote collaboration tools—this role requires you to lead distributed teams effectively.
