How to Apply for Agile Scrum Lead

at Contact Energy

๐Ÿข About Contact Energy

Contact Energy is a leading New Zealand energy company driving the country's transition to reliable, low-carbon renewable energy. Working here means contributing to a meaningful missionโ€”decarbonizing New Zealand's energy sectorโ€”while being part of a collaborative and innovative team culture.

About This Role

As an Agile Scrum Lead on a contract basis, you'll partner with Product Owners and delivery leads to align squads and drive progress toward shared outcomes. Your facilitation and coaching will empower teams to deliver high-quality work efficiently, directly impacting Contact Energy's renewable energy projects.

๐Ÿ’ก A Day in the Life

Your day starts with a stand-up for one squad, followed by a backlog refinement session with a Product Owner. Mid-morning, you coach a team member on Agile practices, then after lunch, you facilitate a sprint planning meeting. You spend the afternoon unblocking a technical issue with the delivery lead and end the day preparing for the next day's retrospective.

๐ŸŽฏ Who Contact Energy Is Looking For

  • Experienced in Agile coaching and facilitation within fast-paced environments, ideally in energy or technology sectors.
  • Able to build strong relationships across business and technology teams, navigating constraints and removing blockers effectively.
  • Skilled in backlog refinement and prioritization, ensuring work is clear and teams stay focused on value delivery.
  • Passionate about coaching Product Owners and squads to strengthen Agile maturity and team effectiveness.

๐Ÿ“ Tips for Applying to Contact Energy

1

Highlight specific examples where you facilitated Agile ceremonies that improved team rhythm and delivery clarity.

2

Tailor your cover letter to mention Contact Energy's renewable energy mission and how your Agile skills can support that transition.

3

Emphasize your experience in fast-paced environments and ability to manage competing priorities, as this role involves multiple stakeholders.

4

Include metrics or outcomes from previous roles where your coaching led to measurable team improvements (e.g., velocity, quality).

5

Mention familiarity with tools like Jira or Confluence, as these are commonly used for backlog management and tracking.

โœ‰๏ธ What to Emphasize in Your Cover Letter

['Your passion for Agile and coaching, with concrete examples of building team capability.', "Alignment with Contact Energy's mission to drive low-carbon renewable energy.", 'Your ability to navigate constraints and remove blockers in a fast-paced environment.', 'Strong relationship-building skills across business and tech teams, with evidence of successful collaboration.']

1 How you would coach a Product Owner new to Agile to improve backlog prioritization.
2 Describe a time you removed a significant blocker for a squadโ€”what was the outcome?
