How to Apply for ADMINISTRATIVE ASSISTANT - Washington State / State of Louisiana
at In The Works, LLC
🏢 About In The Works, LLC
In The Works (ITW) is a belonging-based™ facilitation consultancy that partners with leaders, healers, educators, activists, and change makers on the frontlines of liberation and social change. As a Black & Queer led business, ITW centers Black-liberative, trauma-informed, and anti-racist approaches, helping clients build internal skills so lasting change continues beyond their contracts. Working here means contributing to a values-driven, mission-focused team that prioritizes safety, agency, dignity, and belonging for all members.
About This Role
This part-time remote Administrative Assistant role partners directly with the Co-Founders to create, administer, and operate ITW's systems and communications. You'll be the behind-the-scenes steward ensuring the consultancy runs smoothly—managing schedules, correspondence, documents, and processes—so the Co-Founders can focus on facilitation and client work. Your work directly supports the liberation and social change missions of ITW's clients and communities.
💡 A Day in the Life
A typical day might involve checking in with the Co-Founders via a brief virtual meeting, then updating calendars, drafting or responding to client emails, organizing shared documents, and refining an internal process to make future work smoother. You might also research potential client leads or prepare materials for an upcoming facilitation session. The work is flexible and remote, but you're a steady, reliable presence that keeps ITW's operations running smoothly behind the scenes.
🚀 Application Tools
🎯 Who In The Works, LLC Is Looking For
- You are highly organized and self-directed, able to manage flexible part-time hours while keeping multiple systems and communications on track without close supervision.
- You bring a creative and authentic approach to administrative work, finding innovative ways to streamline processes while staying true to ITW's values.
- You are solutions-oriented and proactive, anticipating needs and solving problems before they escalate, especially in a remote, small-team environment.
- You are committed to anti-racist, trauma-informed, and Black-liberative principles, and you understand how to embody these values in everyday administrative tasks and communications.
📝 Tips for Applying to In The Works, LLC
Explicitly connect your administrative experience to ITW's mission—show how your organizational skills can support liberation and social change work, not just any business.
Use language from the job description, such as 'belonging-based,' 'trauma-informed,' and 'Black-liberative,' to demonstrate alignment with ITW's values and approach.
Highlight any experience working in remote, part-time, or flexible roles, and emphasize your ability to manage your own schedule and workload independently.
Mention specific tools or systems you've used to create and administer communications or operational processes (e.g., Google Workspace, project management software, email marketing platforms).
Because ITW is a small Black & Queer led business, show cultural competence and a genuine commitment to supporting marginalized communities—avoid performative language and instead share concrete examples.
✉️ What to Emphasize in Your Cover Letter
["Your alignment with ITW's values: demonstrate understanding of belonging-based, trauma-informed, and anti-racist frameworks and why they matter to you.", 'Your ability to partner with Co-Founders: emphasize your experience supporting senior leaders in a remote, part-time capacity, and how you create systems that make their work easier.', "Your organizational and creative problem-solving skills: provide examples of how you've built or improved administrative systems and communications in previous roles.", 'Your commitment to flexibility and self-management: show that you can thrive in a flexible, remote environment while maintaining high reliability and responsiveness.']
Generate Cover Letter →🔍 Research Before Applying
To stand out, make sure you've researched:

- → Research the Co-Founders' backgrounds, public talks, or writings to understand their leadership style and the communities they serve.
- → Explore what 'Black-liberative,' 'trauma-informed,' and 'anti-racist' mean in practice within organizational contexts, so you can speak to them authentically in your application.
- → Look into ITW's recent projects or client testimonials to get a sense of the pace, types of clients, and the kind of administrative support that would be most valuable.
💬 Prepare for These Interview Topics
Based on this role, you may be asked about:
⚠️ Common Mistakes to Avoid
- Submitting a generic cover letter or resume that doesn't reference ITW's specific mission, values, or the belonging-based™ approach—this signals a lack of genuine interest.
- Overpromising availability or flexibility if you can't truly commit to a part-time, flexible schedule that may require responsiveness during unconventional hours.
- Using performative or clichéd language about social justice without concrete examples of how you've lived those values in a professional setting.
