West Africa Researcher - REMOTE

Core responsibilities:

• Collect, review, and manage political violence and protest data across West Africa, particularly the Sahel and Nigeria
• Code events to provide holistic coverage of current political violence, ranging from protests to battles
• Ensure the quality, consistency, and reliability of the data produced
• Work with conflict-related media and read about violent events as part of data collection

This role contributes to reducing violent conflict by providing accurate, accessible, and timely data and analysis that better informs decisions, offering local insights for global questions about political violence.

Required skills and qualifications:

• University degree in international relations, political science, conflict studies, peacebuilding, international development, or related field
• Familiarity with Excel (essential)
• Fluency in English and French (essential)
• Experience conducting desk-based research and working to deadlines with limited supervision
• High level of attention to detail and ability to receive and incorporate feedback
• Research focus or professional experience in conflict research or peacebuilding in West Africa is a strong advantage
• Access to a computer, reliable internet connection, email, and Microsoft Office Suite

Remuneration is 20 USD per hour, with a minimum commitment of 25 hours per week. This is a fully remote opportunity that can be done from any location with reliable internet service, open to nationals of any country.
