How to Apply for Volunteer Mentor

at Malengo

🏢 About Malengo

Malengo is unique as a nonprofit that specifically facilitates international educational migration by providing both mentoring and financial support to students from low-income countries. Working here offers the opportunity to directly impact students' lives by helping them navigate the complex journey of pursuing bachelor's degrees in high-income countries like Germany, combining educational access with social mobility.

About This Role

As a Volunteer Mentor at Malengo, you'll provide ongoing guidance and support to students from Uganda and Kenya throughout their entire educational journey in Germany. This role is impactful because you'll help students overcome cultural, academic, and logistical challenges while pursuing their degrees, directly contributing to Malengo's mission of increasing educational opportunities for students from developing countries.

💡 A Day in the Life

A typical day might involve video calls with 2-3 students to discuss academic progress, responding to emails about visa extensions or housing issues, researching German university resources for international students, and documenting student progress in Malengo's tracking system. You'll balance immediate problem-solving with long-term educational planning for each mentee.
