How to Apply for Volunteer: Backend Systems & Data Lead — NESA-Africa

at Santos Creations Educational Foundation

🏢 About Santos Creations Educational Foundation

Santos Creations Educational Foundation (SCEF) is a Pan-African education ecosystem that runs NESA-Africa, EduAid Africa, and eLibrary Nigeria. It is endorsed by FAWE and CSACEFA, and operates under strict governance pillars (Transparency, Safeguarding, Data Protection, etc.). This is a mission-driven organization with a live, high-visibility platform, offering volunteers real ownership and impact on continental education recognition.

About This Role

As the Backend Systems & Data Lead, you will architect and maintain the data backbone for NESA-Africa's nominee, judging, and participation ecosystem. You'll solve real, current data problems—like tracking 1,452+ Education Enablers across 85 countries and 2,500+ nominees—and ensure data integrity for the upcoming 2026 Recognition Gala. This role is impactful because your work directly supports the recognition of educators across Africa and the platform's credibility.

💡 A Day in the Life

As the Backend Systems & Data Lead, your day might start by reviewing data integrity reports and checking for anomalies in the nominee database. You could then collaborate with the web team to optimize API endpoints or write scripts to clean and deduplicate records. Later, you might analyze data from the current tracking system to prepare insights for the Gala planning, all while communicating asynchronously with the remote team via Slack or email.
